MVHS dress committee to present proposal

    I am very impressed with the thoughtful process by which decisions were made. Applause to Mount Vernon. After many years of layering policy on top of policy, they seem to have stepped back, examined the policy more holistically, and made some recommendations that address the core issues of what dress at school actually means in relationship to school culture and student behavior. I think the idea about vouchers mentioned at the end of the story is an excellent proposal. It could serve as a catalyst for new student leadership groups on campus who might be willing to engage community members in raising money for such a fund. Who gets the money, how privately and discretely they get it, and what measures of accountability will ensure they use it properly, will take some more thought and deliberation by leadership, but you’re moving the right direction here and I urge you to keep talking about this voucher idea–it has a lot of merit if this policy is to realize it’s full potential for impact. I think the outcomes this process as described by the story in The MV NEWs are just light years ahead of where the district was on this issue just a few years ago. I like it. VERY nice job.
