What a shame. This building was a grand, wonderful looking school. In its prime, it looked like the kind of place that a person would be proud to walk into every day. It welcomed students and visitors alike and respected them. It was a part of the town, fronting on the street, and encouraged students to, themselves, act respectably and be part of the greater civic fabric.

Contrast that to the current middle and high schools. They’re rambling structures, lacking true fronts, shunted off in the fields near the sewer plant. They’re tough to walk to and nearly impossible to see from the road. They don’t command respect, and they certainly don’t look like places worth saving.

Yet, which building is the one that’s allowed to rot?
