As a graduate of MVHS and a former teacher who taught in that building, I find is very sad that this has happened. Surely something can be done to make it part of the community again in whatever capacity. I would think that former students would contribute to a save the old high school or middle school fundraising campaign.

I wrote my concerns to city council about this debacle more than a year ago. I never got a reply from them. Eventually, they're going to have to seek a grant to either tear it down or build a homeless shelter for all the people without jobs. At some point in time, we all have to deal with problems, some wait too long. Of course, now, there's no money left to take care of anything properly.

It looked better with boarded-up windows rather than the YELLOW vinyl siding.

What a shame. This building was a grand, wonderful looking school. In its prime, it looked like the kind of place that a person would be proud to walk into every day. It welcomed students and visitors alike and respected them. It was a part of the town, fronting on the street, and encouraged students to, themselves, act respectably and be part of the greater civic fabric.

Contrast that to the current middle and high schools. They're rambling structures, lacking true fronts, shunted off in the fields near the sewer plant. They're tough to walk to and nearly impossible to see from the road. They don't command respect, and they certainly don't look like places worth saving.

Yet, which building is the one that's allowed to rot?
