Two of three GOP Senate candidates go head-to-head

MOUNT VERNON — Two of the three Republican candidates for the 19th District Ohio Senate seat answered a variety of questions Monday night during the 9/12 Project’s Meet the Candidates Night at the Knox County Memorial Theater.

    ‚ÄúLight rail is an upgrade to the Amish horse and buggy,‚Äù Collier said. ‚ÄúThey are willing to give us $400 million to build it, but we have to say no. …It will take $28 million a year to subsidize it.”

    Fact-check this guy! It’s not a light rail plan. The estimate to operate the service annually is half what Collier stated, and put that number in context! We’re willing to pay $1.5 billion for a single interchange (the 70/71 split in Columbus) but not a mere 1/100th of that to operate the beginnings of a state-wide rail system that can be expanded upon? Absurd.

    Journalists, don’t let this man’s lies stand without context and proper fact-checking. Do it right.

        Joshua, that’s not the point. The point is that in this article, Collier’s comments go unchallenged and uncorrected. A respectable newspaper would slip a comment in after his statement giving the correct information, not just parrot what each person said. The latter is not journalism, it’s stenography.
