I’m so thrilled to have parking for the park. Thank you Mt. Vernon! When they redid the park playground and paved the parking lot they took out parking. This was needed, just drive by on softball nights or park program days and see the caos of cars all over the side of the roads, very unsafe and inconvient for a mom of 4. Once again thank you.

If your right why is John Curtis getting new sidewalks put in by the City for free??? Weither its a project or not. Mr Glass your are full of crap… Cutting of immature trees for a parking lot is a poor excuse for doing something. Sounds like typical political manipulation and mumbo jumbo…That lot has been there for as long as I can remember and I’ve been a Hiawatha area resident for over 46 years and has always had trees.

Was it really necessary to cut down a couple of healthy trees too, for the sidewalk?? And what about the cutting of almost an acre of trees just for parking at Hiawatha Park… So much for Mt. Vernon being Tree City. Now we can be a parking lot city. Where is the wisdom in such projects?? This is just getting stupid. You want a voice to be for the people and nature, vote me in the next election….

Interestingly enough, sidewalk maintenance is not the responsibility of the city but of the owners of the property abutted by the sidewalks in question.

The sidewalks all along East Burgess Street really need to be repaired also. Many of them are severely broken and the trees have lifted so many of them that they are a hazard when trying to walk down them.
