"Quite frankly, I'm exhausted. I'm exhausted of defending you, defending your administration, defending the mantle of change that I voted for, and deeply disappointed with where we are right now. I have been told that I voted for a man who said he was going to change things in a meaningful way for the middle class. I'm one of those people. And I'm waiting, sir. I'm waiting. I -- I don't feel it yet ... Is this my new reality?" *

Miriam, I have actually spoken to Space and, believe me, I'm a nobody. He's been in town. I don't believe he hides--but, as an elected representative who does his work in Washington, he is necessarily selective about where he appears. A candidate who is not yet in office can appear at every little pig roast and tractor pull and pancake breakfast and house party, since that candidate is campaigning full-time. But when that candidate makes it into office ... well, there's less time to do these things. I wouldn't expect that a candidate would show up at a "debate" that is being sponsored by his opponents. Would you?

Well then why didnt the mount vernon news sponsor the event? or why dont they still sponsor an event? Have it at a high school.

This way it is in a place that neither candidate is being ambushed? bring in political science professors from MNVU and Kenyon to ask the questions and have someone from the new moderate the event. have readers submit questions to the paper. I am sure that MVHS gym would be large enough to hold the 40 people that would show up.

It is actually very simple to figure out. Then you wouldnt have a Political Action Committee that clearly advocates conservative values to hold a debate.

Yes Duncan, perhaps you should inform the right slanted new source that the venue and moderators for the "debate" have a bit (understatement) of a slant to them as well. i'm sure they were unaware that a conservative group hosting an event at a conservative university, might be a little biased.

Rosie: Respectfully, it is MSNBC that is center-left (on some shows). You could say the same for far-right Fox News. At least news organizations and educational institutions attempt to remain neutral when it matters, like when they host a debate.

Actually, I've found Zack Space to be fairly accessible to the public. He and Gibbs have at least two scheduled debates: one at Kent State University and one at the Nelsonville Public Library. One debate is organized by the county chamber of commerce and the other by the League of Women Voters. You can attend those debates, if you'd like.

There's absolutely no conspiracy theory here. A right-wing group invited Space to a debate and he declined as many politicians do unless they're organized by truly non-partisan or neutral organizations. I am not "up in arms" about what Ohio 18 is doing; I'm just pointing out the facts omitted from the Mount Vernon News article.

I have a (D) behind my name at the polls and wear it proudly.

That said, Space's refusal to appear in public over the last few years just plain %$##'# me off.

Am not sure who I'll vote for, but it won't be for a man who is "afraid" to face his constituents.

Although I am a Republican I will support and vote for Zack Space. He, in my hummble opinion, is a man worthy of our support and should get re-elected. He has voted against the national care bill, one of only a few Democrats to do so, and so far, has demonstrated a level-headed approach to the problems facing this country. Not only this, but his father and wife, as well as many of his contempories have served this state and nation well.
