The schools have cut from their budget. They've not rehired when teachers leave, or retire. Before and after school programs have been cut completely. Summer school has been cut to the bare minimum. There is nothing left to cut. This levy isn't about Freshwater, or about needing more money to operate a budget. It's to replace what isn't coming in anymore because of foreclosures and falling home values. It's to cover what the state is telling the school districts all over that they will be losing once the budget for 2011-2013 is made. Instead of jumping to conclusions, go to the meetings and get the real information. This district hasn't asked for a new levy since 1996. You'll be hard pressed to find a school district anywhere that can say the same thing. Our children need a good education, so they can help our community become better once they're adults. And before anyone asks, I am not employed by the schools, but I do have 3 children. I want them to have the opportunities that a school should offer.

I do not work for the schools. However I value education more than the people of MTV will. Once people understand that educated our youth no matter what the price, will expand our economy farther than any tax cut. The largest expansion of our economy came when we made education available to everyone, now let's make it great. Schools should be palaces, teachers should make better pay. And parents need to get involved along with the rest of the community. Education is the linchpin no matter what the cost. And if you can't see that, then enjoy crime, and a bad economy

Jason are you writing about Southwestern in Grove City? If so, these number speak for themselves, 385 houses recently sold and 171 new home building permits in 2009. Pretty active real estate market for a district nobody wants to live in. lol

In those areas around Columbus the property values have diminished. But people still want to find a way to send their kids to those districts. However in the southwest city school district where they haven't passed a levy in several years and can not get any new businesses to the area and the housing market has fallen off the cliff. No one wants to move their because the schools are in disaray.

If you don't think that schools are tied to housing, what do you think the first question families ask when they move? How good are the schools?

Education is the linchpin to a great town, state, country and society. I am not saying that the schools can't be run more efficiently. What I am saying is that there are larger implications than what people are focusing on.

So we're supposed to continue to pay taxes on something we don't have. Good schools are not connected to home values. That is propaganda that you have swallowed from the district. Take a look at Dublin, New Albany and other upscale areas, they have better schools than we can ever imagine, and they have lost substantial home values as well. Tell me, what good did their schools do them? I'm not voting to give them another dime. They need to learn to live within the taxpayers means, and focus on educating the kids.
