MOUNT VERNON — According to residents on Columbus Road, just south of Mount Vernon, local law enforcement officers forced entry into a Columbus Road residence about 7:45 this morning.

Neighbors told News Photographer Virgil Shipley they saw what appeared to be one person, presumed dead, removed from the home and one person taken from the home by emergency medical personnel.

Authorities would not confirm these details or whether or not this crime scene is connected to the disappearance of Tina Herrmann, Sarah Maynard, Kody Maynard and Stephanie Sprang.

The four people have been missing since Wednesday from Apple Valley.

Knox County Coroner, Jennifer Ogle, told the News that she has not been called out by law enforcement on any case today.

The News is following this development and will continue to update with details become available.

Why is this article still present on the website. Take it down…it is not correct.

Why is everyone talking about bringing a body bag out? Just because of them covering someones heasd? Did you ever think they had the little girls head covered up because of media and privacy? Doesn’t anybody read, the news already stated:”

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (AP) — Barber says reports that a body bag had been taken from the home are false.
He did not know if Hoffman was connected to either Herrmann or Sprang but says he is not the ex-boyfriend of either woman.
Barber says the girl is hospitalized in good condition.”

Just leave the family alone, they have been through enough, just Pray and help if needed, instead of gossiping about things you think you know of.

As I read the statements in this forum, is it really important who is right and who is wrong.
in what they are saying or what they believe. The sheriffs office will keep us posted! Lets just hope the outcome is not as what it appears.

  4. Sue

Have they checked Dry Creek? It may be a area they might what to check as well since it is located behind where he lives.

  5. Karin

Continue praying, we already saw one miracle, they found Sarah. We need another miracle. God, give wisdom and strength to those searching…. Help us to find the three still missing!

“Neighbors told News Photographer Virgil Shipley they saw what appeared to be one person, presumed dead, removed from the home and one person taken from the home by emergency medical personnel.”
Learn to read- please. They said “Neighbors told- not that it had indeed happened but that they were told by neighbors that what “appeared” to be a dead body was removed.

  7. Marcel

Unless it is FACT, please don’t print it. Those of us that are friends of Tina and her kids are alarmed enough without hysteria added into the mix. We remain full of hope at their safe return. I say this with respect and no offense is intended.

  8. Christine

The media bashers here have failed to realize that the media HAS actually provided facts. It is a fact that two people were removed from house. It is a fact that one was in handcuffs. It is a fact that one was removed on a gurney with head covered and onlookers “presumed” it to be a dead body. The media clearly did not state that it WAS a dead body, so the mis-interpretation is really the responsibility of the reader.
With that said, my heart goes out to both families as well as the family of the kidnapper who are likely both devastated and horrified by the actions of their family member.

Geeesh people, really!! Now I see why the police & officials keep tight lipped about everything till its over! A riot is about to break out over the pc if that would be possible.

The facts are very simple, & easy to understand. The girl was found alive… the nut was locked up….police still looking for the rest.
Anything more than that is gossip! Just drop it.

The news did a great job at reporting what they know, & even “IF” some of the facts are a little flawed, its because of what lies & gossip they’ve been told by the liars & gossips themselves!

Sometimes people get bored if theres not a lot of juicy stuff to report….body bags, blood, gore, guns, ect. By now though, everyone knows the facts, its on all the tv stations, & newspapers.

So, sorry, no gore, no national guards called in or anyhing spectacular yet. Not unless a riot breaks out on the pc’s due to fighting, hoping for juicier news!!

Imagine how that little girl is gonna feel if she gets wind of this junk about someone in a bodybag.Shes might think its her mom, or brother, & the police is lying to her about it.Not wanting her to know. Gossip hurts people! So just drop it.

As the search continues for steph, tina and Kody please keep an open mind and heart and respect the families of the victims and stop the rumors. If someone says something about the case just ignore it unless you hear it from the sheriff himself. As the family is stressed enough not knowing where their family members may be please keep in mind that these individuals are people. If you want to help go out and help search for them or just pray for thei safety. Thanks to all who have been supportive in this matter and to all who are looking. May God help us find the answers and our friends and family!!!!

  11. brian

You mount vernon people need to find something better to do than spred false rumors!

  12. Linda Angelo

Why do you wish everyone would stop hanging around? This is a discussion board, and that is what is going on here. No one is sure at this moment exactly what happened, so we discuss!

  13. Jackson

Read it carefully — the girl WHO was missing with… has been found… It clearly states that just the girl was found.

  14. Linda Angelo

This is a discussion board. Not a certified witness report.

JMO, If the missing family was someone I knew, I really dont think I would be on the computer raising h… that other people are discussing it. Like the poster above said “prayer”, thats what I would be doing.
If this discussion is upsetting to read, dont read it.

My question is why were the authorities summoned to this house on Columbus Road and for what reason? The news says there was a body bad removed from this house.?

  16. Thrasher

What in the world??? These news articles are talking in circles! Sentence #1 – The 13-yr old girl and her mother, brother, etc have been found bound and gagged in the basement. Sentence #2 – Her mother Tina, brother, and the mother’s friend are still missing. What??? Am I missing something or did someone just contradict themselves?

  17. M. S.

Quite frankly, after reading the contradictory reports from various news services I have lost all confidence in news “reporting,”

  18. Thrasher

I agree! I live directly across from the house, and I can tell you part of this article is already flawed. They removed 2 people, yes; however, 1 was taken in handcuffs and the other was taken out on a gurney with the person’s head covered up. That’s it! I’ve been watching this since it started this morning and I’m tired of everyone hanging around spreading gossip. I don’t even know how the public seemed to know everything about the case even before any official reports were released. In fact, I still have yet to see an official report.

    John,

You should probably direct your question, “Why is this even a story?” to the editor.

  20. John

Just found this on AP – Barber says that no body bag/dead person was removed from the home. Will the news be printing a retraction? I hope, for the sake of professionalism, they will.

Girl safe, arrest made in Ohio missing family case
    (AP) – 6 hours ago
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (AP) ‚Äî A sheriff in central Ohio says a 13-year-old girl who was missing with her mother, brother and a friend has been found bound and gagged in the basement of a man’s home about 10 miles from her house.
Knox County Sheriff David Barber said Sunday that Sarah Maynard’s mother, Tina Herrmann, is still missing, along with her 10-year-old brother, Kody, and her mother’s 41-year-old friend Stephanie Sprang.
Barber says 30-year-old Matthew Hoffman was arrested on one count of kidnapping at his home in Mount Vernon, about 40 miles north of Columbus. He says reports that a body bag had been taken from the home are false.
He did not know if Hoffman was connected to either Herrmann or Sprang but says he is not the ex-boyfriend of either woman.
Barber says the girl is hospitalized in good condition.

Ok – so, the coroner has not been called. Had there been a death/murder/etc. in the case – Jennifer would have been called, as per usual protocol goes. This being the case, why is it being reported?

The headline and part of the story is based on a neighbor’s speculation. Not fact.
However, the Coroner says that there has been no call. Fact.

Why is this even a story? Can we get rid of speculation and just report facts? Seems like someone is attention grabbing.

  23. Joshua Morrison

Neighbors told News Photographer Virgil Shipley they saw what appeared to be one person, presumed dead, removed from the home and one person taken from the home by emergency medical personnel.

The owner of the house, Matthew Hoffman was arrested. At the end of this post, it was mentioned that the corner was not called to the scene.

  24. John

Josh – Who wrote this story? Is there any actual evidence of a second person (other than Sarah) removed from the house? It seems like The News is killing some credibility with their “speculative” reporting. A little “we have it online now” hype, or is there fact?

  25. Karen

ok… so when are they going to have the news conference? was supposed to be live on 10tv.com…. but nothing yet! getting tired of reading gossip. would be nice to get real information.

  26. positive thinking

GOD IS GOOD, GOD IS GREAT, LET US THANK HIM! Positive thinking and words to all involed

  27. Kelli_not_forgotten

it was said by Tina’s brother via facebook = that Sarah was at the hospital & that he is not allowed to say anything more than that.

  28. Rachel

i would think the family would be informed about all this before anything is released to the public. Its in knox county

  29. Katrin Wengerd

Everyone needs to stop the gossip. I undersatand that its hard not to talk about it but instead of talkin to one another about what could be or what may be look up and talk to GOD. Just pray that they are all ok and to look after them. Learn to think possitive and find a way to help or at least pray harder then you have ever befor. My children along with many others are friends with them all but we are trying to keep faith instead of listening to what roomers are bing txt around. They have found one person alive and thats a start. Just keep the faith.

  30. SRALEX

WBNS 10TV reports Sarah is alive, found at the house on Columbus road. I guess info on FB was credible after all.

  31. melissa

Sarah was found alive. Confirmed by law enforcement and 10tv. The FB page they are referring to is the prayers page and someone from 10tv has been updating us, so it is a good place for info..

  32. Lauren

10tvnews.com updated – it was in fact Sarah Maynard they found and she is alive and at KCH being treated! The other three are still missing.

  33. Jak

    Let’s see if I got this right…

You have neighbors who say someone ‘presumed’ dead was removed from a residence, you have associated the event to the Apple Valley disappearances via insinuation, and you basically have nothing concrete to report other than that police entered a home and something which you can not substantiate happened.

Do you think the families of those missing have read this? Do you think that this eases the anxiety and burden they are already experiencing? Here’s an idea – why don’t you wait until you actually have something to report before you fill empty space in your fishwrap with it?

  34. robh

That’s crazy I work at neffs which is across the street and river from work i was on lunch at the time the cops were zooming by me to get to columbus rd I didn’t think anything of it at the time

  35. It's me

Where is the house located? Knox County or Licking County? Has the Licking County coroner been called out?
