Bodies found; community mourns

FREDERICKTOWN — A mile west of Fredericktown Thursday afternoon, the hopes of many county residents were replaced with despair as the bodies of Howard residents Tina Herrmann, 32; Stephanie Sprang, 41; and Herrmann’s son, Kody Maynard, 11, were found.

    MY HEART GOES OUT TO THE FAMILES AND THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY. SUCH A TRAGIC AND SENSELESS END FOR 2 MOTHERS, ESPECIALLY FOR THE YOUNG BOY. THANK GOD THEY FOUND THE LITTLE GIRL, BUT I AM SURE, HER LIFE WILL NEVER BE THE SAME. THIS IS A SAD REMINDER OF HOW FRAGILE LIFE REALLY IS, AND HOW SOMEONE CAN TAKE ANOTHERS LIFE AT RANDOM WILL, IS DEPLORABLE. THIS BARBAROUS MONSTER WILL PAY FOR HIS ACTIONS TO THESE INNOCENT VICTIMS, ONE WAY OR ANTOHER. MEN IN JAIL/PRISON, FOR JUST REASONS, DON’T LIKE CHILD MURDERER’S.

One note on a quote from Dr Ogle‚Ķ‚ÄùThanking law enforcement for their ‚Äúincredible and heroic work,‚Äù Ogle said ‚Äúthe story of Sarah Maynard‚Äôs rescue will forever be remembered as an example of extraordinary detective work and bravery.‚Äù ‚ĶUh‚ĶI dont think I would use the words ‚Äúincredible and heroic work,‚Äù or ‚Äúextraordinary detective work‚Äù. What im getting at is if this animal wasnt sitting in his car, watching the police investigate the truck he dropped off, they never would have noticed him and we would probably would still be looking for this creep and the daughter probably would be dead also. Not putting down the police because I know they put in alot of man hours on this case, just stating the fact that we would probably still be looking if this murderous thug hadnt been sitting in his car at the scene of an investigation. They got lucky on this one. As far as Sarah, I can only hope she gets through this ok. She’s got a long way to go. Im not sure she will ever realize or understand how lucky she is.

    Seems to me that the boyfriend made statements to the effect that Tina sent him a text early Thursday morning that she had fed the dog. According to the report she would have been dead by then. Why would Hoffman send such a text? Something doesn’t add up.

    Irregardless of whether you care for the comments being made or not, the reality is, the community and you could even say the state is reeling from this horrible senseless crime. People are processing their emotions, and feelings right now, and yes, some are incredibly angry, with good reason. I too, am a Christian, but that doesn’t stop me from thinking of some cruel and vicious justice for this sick horrible man. I realize that isn’t going to bring back those three wonderful people, or make things better for Sarah, or heal this community. But they are MY feelings, and as the community heals and time goes by, yes, I may feel guilty I felt so hateful and revengeful, BUT again they are my process and its my time to heal as its everyone’s else’s feelings and time as well. You might not want to hear their comments, but its part of their healing and grieving process and they have a right to say how they feel. It may change with time, but it may not, but that is between them and their God or themselves however they believe, They don’t have to answer to You, or anyone else. This is a forum for expression, if the newspaper deems the comments inappropriate they will not publish it, but they too understand people need to grieve and if lashing out helps that, then its a part of the process.

    I think that this is what that sick o wanted a town… no a nation talking about him wondering about his in’s and out of state of mind… he wanted to be noticed and didn’t care if it was for the good or wrong reasons… by us talking about how sick and evil he is we are just giving him what he wants! I say we should focus now on the victims not just the three who lost their lives… God is with them now! but those who are still here with us who are suffering the lost such as the little girl :( we should give them words of hope and strength to keep going each and every day! let them know that there are still really good and wholesome people in this world… talking about barbaric ways to make this guy suffer isn’t the talk we need now. we should keep that stuff to ourselves… but give words of up lifting spirits… in a time of darkness! Should help our fellow neighbors who knew the three souls that parted from us… lend our hands in support… sorry for rambling on but thats how I feel :(

    My heart goes out to the families of the victims and to the people of Knox County. Death by murder always leaves one shocked, but as details emerge from the cororner’s report, I am particularly disturbed and sickened. Though this will scar Ms. Herrmann’s daughter forever, I pray that she will be able some day to resume some semblance of a “normal” life.

    To the people of Knox County, if you can take anything positive from this horrific event, it’s that you pulled together and showed all of us the true definition of community. Your concern, care, and participation in the search was amazing. – A Licking County resident

    It seems that whenever a human being commits a barbaric act, it brings out the barbaric in others. When we sink to his level we lower the whole level of our civilization. It is sad to see just how much viciousness lurks in the hearts of so-called civilized people.

    I would like to commend our local county law enforcement for their swift and professional handling of this horrible situation, including the wisdom to call in outside help and the careful handling of press conferences to help, not hinder the case they are preparing. The willingness of members of the community to help is outstanding, also. This tragic event has touched us all. May it help us be more aware and more thankful that such things are rare in our comminity.

    There is no death penalty good enough that monster. It would be too quick and humane. He cannot be human to eliminate almost an entire family. What happened to an eye for an eye? I think this predator should be dismembered while he is still breathing.

    One thing is for sure, this guy should not be given the option for lethal injection. If he wants to brutally murder someone, he should not get off so easy. Murdering is terrible but messing with little kids is unpardonable. I hope the worst for him.

    Does anyone know if he got the bags and tarp before or after the murder?

    If he got bags and tarp before I would say he planned to murder, if it was after then I was guess that he was robbing the place, they came home and walked in on the robbery then he freaks out and starts kills then does everything he can to cover the mess up. Only a guess.

    Hard to think that he (Hoffman) who his mom says is smart, would go kill three people just to get at a girl, there would have been to manny easier was to do that.

    But if he got the stuff before hand then I would say hes one messed up puppy that went there to kill

      Absolutely not. No matter what he did, being a barbaric animal doesn’t make you better than him. Plus, a public hanging? You think it’s a good idea to bring everyone out, children included, and make them watch a man die? Cause you know that’s how it works, right? That’s the premise behind a PUBLIC hanging? To make everyone watch and turn the hanged into an example? (And judging by how many of them happened, I’d say said the examples didn’t work out too well)

        Lock him up alive, for life (and 3 squares a day) as long as we taxpayers can afford it. The courts will decide that part.

        I am not expert enough to say if that way is better or worse than the exploitative, sensationalized dribble that is repeated over and over in certain parts of the national, irrational media to which we expose our kids.
