Shepherd recommends Freshwater be fired

MOUNT VERNON – Through unconfirmed reports, the News has learned administrative hearing referee R. Lee Shepherd has recommended the teaching contract of suspended Mount Vernon Middle School science teacher John Freshwater be terminated.

Board of education president Margie Bennett acknowledged the board received the report late Friday evening but would not confirm the contents. She did tell the News the board will be reviewing the report at Monday’s regularly scheduled board meeting.

    An excellent decision. I honestly saw no other option for the referee, given Freshwater’s insubordination and violation of the Establishment Clause.nnWhen do we begin the countdown to Freshwater’s appeal of the termination hearing recommendation? Hah.
