MOUNT VERNON — Earlier this week, Mayor Richard Mavis and city officials met with representatives from American Electric Power to discuss the unexpected cost of the city's streetlight bill for 2010.

    For 3 years there has been a rate increase and the city management either wasn’t aware of it or couldn’t extrapolate the additional costs that would result. Really?

    I probably had to buy the paper to read the rest of this article, but from what I know street lights make safer neighborhoods, which means our towns people are safer! I will gladly pay that bill. Take the $$ I would be giving to the new foundation park and give it to the light bill so our streets remain well lit and safe for everyone!!!!
