MOUNT VERNON –– Less than two months into his efforts to bring common sense back to the federal government, 18th District Congressman Bob Gibbs feels that Saturday's approval of major spending cuts is a step in the right direction.

The deficit indicates the root of our problems. A fed govt that is incompetent. It subsidizes mortgages to folks who can’t pay it back(spreads the wealth around) that provides vast ammo for Big Banks to securitize and create vast amounts of credit default swaps based on those stupid loans to sell to Harvard MBA’s in banks all over the world—exploding risk to TAXPAYERS,not banks.. Then our political class(thanks, Obama) not only rewards Big Banks for their Harvard inspired nonsense, but creates regulations that only concentrate banking giving it even more power over us.Blame the feds.

Sorry, Gibbs, but the root of all our problems is not the deficit. The economy collapsed because greedy bankers on Wall Street went unregulated for far too long, inflating values of assets and then failing. The government is not the enemy, unregulated industries are.
