6:32 a.m. UPDATE— The National Weather Service in cleveland has issued a winter storm warning for heavy snow, which is in effect until 4 pm est this afternoon.
Snow moderate at times will occur before tapering off this afternoon. Snow accumulations during the daylight hours will be 2 to 4 inches for a storm total of 4 to 8 inches.
Plenty of blowing and drifting snow will develop today. extra time will be needed for the morning commute.
A winter storm warning is issued when severe winter weather is expected. Heavy snow and/or ice will cause hazardous driving conditions. The National Weather Service in cleveland has issued a winter weather advisory for snow, sleet and freezing rain, which is in effect from 9 pm this evening to 4 pm Friday.
Strong low pressure will track near a path from Cincinnati to Youngstown tonight into Friday morning. Rain will begin to mix with sleet or snow toward sunrise. A brief period of freezing rain will also be possible. The transition to all snow should occur by late morning.
Ice accumulations of around a tenth of an inch will be possible before the transition over to snow. This mix will cause lower amounts of snow. However accumulations of 3 to 5 inches will be possible. Winds will also increase by Friday afternoon to at least 15 to 25 mph. This will cause blowing and drifting of the snowfall.
A winter weather advisory is normally issued for a variety of winter weather conditions such as light snow.., blowing snow, sleet and freezing rain.
