Public perception not necessarily reality at Children Services

MOUNT VERNON — Public perception for any business and organization is crucial to its overall success, especially when that agency has been charged with the goal of keeping the county's children safe.

    I speculate that those “quick to criticize” are unaware of what they do not know and have never walked in the shoes of one who works in or with Children Services [CS].nnThat does not mean that every case in every community is handled with flawless correctness.nnFrom what I have seen and been told by workers and former workers in multiple counties and by attorneys who work as GAL; work in CS is uncommonly stressful and for some is a neat “burn out” profession.nnCS may not and ought not “blow off” a knowingly false and evil allegation without checking some of the facts to determine whether intervention is needed. nn- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - n”Shira, along with agency director Matthew Kurtz, said too many county residents are quick to criticize the efforts of case workers and investigators when, after placing a call to report suspected abuse, the child remains with the family.”
