I used an e-book for a college math course with COTC. I found it difficult to learn from. I had to print out pages in order to read and comprehend the problems. I think the concept is nice because the school can update books easier. They also won't have to worry about lost or damaged books. From a learning perspective it was not so nice. Also it is harder to buckle down when online with easy access to games and Facebook. I prefer to be off the computer and focused. Maybe the younger generations won't have the same issues I did.

There are a few pros and cons with the new e-book program. It allows you to use any computer to access the book as long as the computer has an Internet connection. It also eliminates the need to carry around a large book, which is nice for students who have to carry several of them. However the computer aspect of the program also causes a few problems. For example, if a students computer is not working correctly or they are for some reason unable to access the book on-line they are not able to complete there work on time. Teachers are lenient with students because of this aspect though. The new book itself does not offer great help. Many of the examples in the new book are not detailed enough or do not directly pertain to what you are trying to do. Overall the concept of the e-book program is a starting point and more schools should explore the possibility of introducing on-line books, classes and other educational tools.
