MOUNT VERNON — The PNC Bank in downtown Mount Vernon closed Monday due to a computer problem. It reopened later in the afternoon.

Craig Friedman, a media relations employee of PNC in Columbus, said the computer problem developed over the weekend. Since no business could be conducted without the computer, the Mount Vernon office was closed and a sign on the door directed customers to the branch in Sunbury.

Friedman reported shortly after 3 p.m. that the computer problem was cleared up and the bank had reopened.

The branch office on Coshocton Avenue was not affected.
