MOUNT VERNON — As a result of heavy rains overnight — up to 3 inches in some areas — several roads were closed Tuesday morning due to high water.

According to Larry Bechtel at the Knox County Engineer’s Officer, as of 7 a.m. water had closed sections of Waterford, Quaker, Darlington, Yankee, Toms, Lock, Orange Hill, Lanning, Wally and Knox Lake roads.

Bechtel said a couple had probably reopened by 9 a.m.
