Helen Sims and Clement King, 1938 graduates of Gambier High School, were honored for being the eldest attending this year’s banquet.


GAMBIER — On June 28, 2013, Gambier Alumni and friends gathered again at the Mount Vernon Nazarene University for their annual banquet. President Deanna (Brokaw) Ridgeway welcomed 96 alumni and friends. The program was opened by pledging the flag, singing “God Bless America” and saying the Lord’s Prayer.

Dinner was served by the Pioneer Food Service.

Entertainment was provided by Jim Hawkins. Anniversary classes were honored: 1933 and 1958 by Ridgeway; Clem King, 1938; Forest Lewis, 1943; Roy Green, 1948; and Dale Tier, 1953. Vice President Harold Kunkel, named those deceased since last year’s banquet. There was recognition of faculty and those who traveled from out of state. Jane (Grossman) Hoyt, class of 1950, from Grove City, Pa., was given a gift for traveling the farthest. Gifts were given to Helen (Hall) Sims and Clement King, both class of 1938, for being the eldest.

The secretary and treasurer’s reports were given by Mary (Balcom) Baer. Ridgeway named next year’s officers and gave the benediction.
