The Mount Vernon Killer Bees 12 & Under All-Star softball team won the championship of its first tournament of the season, the Philo Stars & Stripes tournament. The team began play Friday with an 8-0 win over Marietta, but managed only a 1-1 tie against the Mount Vernon A All-Star team Saturday. The Killer Bees earned the No. 2 seed in the tournament with Saturday’s 8-3 victory over Philo. Tournament play began Sunday, with the Bees shutting out Zanesville Rampage, 12-0. A 9-7 victory over Crooksville later in the day put the team up against No. 1 Maysville in the championship game. A quick start helped the Bees run rule Maysville, 16-2, for the title.
