MOUNT VERNON — A 55-year-old man was found deceased this morning by the Mount Vernon firefighters when the department responded to a structure fire at 655 S. Edgewood Road, Mount Vernon.
According to Dr. Jennifer Ogle, Knox County Coroner, the man was identified as Peter J. Ribar.
“There were no signs of foul play,” Ogle told the News.
When firefighters arrived on the scene, they were told a resident was still in the house “in the general vicinity of the room involved in fire,” said Fire Chief Chris Menapace in a press release issued earlier today.
The fire was contained in what is believed to be the room of origin.
“Heavy fire damage was present in the room where the victim was found,” Menapace said. “Smoke and heat damage was prevalent throughout the second floor.”
MVFD, in cooperation with the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and the coroner, continues to investigate the cause and origin of the blaze.
