Tibetan monks to complete mandala today
Students at Kenyon College had something different to study when they went to the campus library this week. Tibetan Buddhist monks from Drepung Loseling Monastery were in the atrium of Olin Library constructing a mandala sand painting amidst a background recording of monastic chanting. The event was sponsored by the Circle K Club at Kenyon, a Kiwanis-sponsored organization.

Students inducted into Mount Vernon honor society
Forty juniors and three seniors joined an elite group of students during Mount Vernon High School’s National Honor Society Induction ceremony held Jan. 28. Current NHS members, under the direction of advisor Mark Tuel, served as ushers and new inductee registrars.

Utica Jr. High hosts health fair
Promoting health and safety was the purpose behind the health fair held Feb. 8 at Utica Junior High School. Informational and interactive stations were manned by representatives from Knox Community Hospital, Licking Memorial Hospital, Utica EMS, Utica Police and the Newton Volunteer Fire Department.

An early morning Centerburg apartment fire left two families homeless and their belongings destroyed.

Bullying: What can parents do?

Fire alarm fees up for discussion
The Mount Vernon City Council will be be holding a committee meeting before the regular council session on Monday to talk about the proposed increases in false fire alarm fees. It’s been proposed to increase the fee from $25 to $250 per incident.
