2 charged with trafficking in cocaine

MOUNT VERNON — Bond has been set at $25,000 for two suspects apprehended by police during a drug investigation on Wednesday.

According to Assistant Knox County Prosecutor Rob Broeren, suspects Margaret M. Linley, 57, Buckeye Lake, and Hubert A. Puckett, 18, Newark, have both been charged with trafficking in cocaine, a third-degree felony.

Both remain in jail in lieu of posting the $25,000 bond, which was ordered without a 10 percent provision. They are scheduled for preliminary hearings on Tuesday.

Mount Vernon Police arrested the pair on Wednesday evening, along with a juvenile suspect, as they intercepted an alleged drug transaction. Several hundred dollars and over 100 grams of a white powder substance was also seized.

An initial field test did not show the white substance to be cocaine. A more thorough test will be conducted, according to police. It is a crime to sell, or attempt to sell, a substance as an illegal drug, regardless of whether or not the substance actually is a drug.

The Wednesday bust was part of an ongoing investigation by the Mount Vernon Police Department with assistance from the METRICH Enforcement Unit.
