Defamation lawsuit, police chief appeal still pending
MOUNT VERNON -- A local defamation suit and a legal challenge to the newly appointed Mount Vernon Police Chief will both be heard by out-of-county judges, according to recent court documents.

New businesses taking over in old buildings
MOUNT VERNON -- The well-known local nightclub Banana Joe’s closed its doors this week. According to signs outside the building, a new business called McGraw’s will take its place.

Newland’s inspiring stories published
HOWARD -- An Apple Valley author’s story of an inspiring Mount Vernon shop clerk is included in the newest release from the “Chicken Soup”book series, “Chicken Soup for the Shopper’s Soul,”released during the holiday shopping season.

Tigers down Lords in OT
GAMBIER -- For the second time in as many games, the Kenyon Lords had a game slip away at the hands of an opponent’s 3-pointer, as Mark Caraway buried a 3 for Wittenburg with half a second left to send the game to overtime. The Tigers would go on to win, 72-67, after the extra period. The Lords fell to DePauw on Dec. 20 on a last-second trey as well.

MOUNT VERNON -- Dropping three of its last four games isn’t a thing any team wants to do, but that’s the predicament the Mount Vernon High School girls basketball team finds itself in as 2007 begins.

Johnnies, Redskins face off
UTICA -- Tonight’s game between the Utica and Johnstown High School girls basketball teams could have lasting implications for both teams involved. Both teams are undefeated in Mid-Buckeye Conference play and are looking to stay that way.
