MOUNT VERNON — Aaron Seavolt, the 23-year-old Mount Vernon man who led police on a high speed motorcycle chase this summer, was sentenced to three years of community control in Knox County Common Pleas Court this morning.
In August, 2006, Seavolt was indicted for failing to comply with the order or signal of a police officer. He was also charged with tampering with evidence for allegedly disposing of a baggy of marijuana during the pursuit.
On July 14, Mount Vernon Police allegedly saw Seavolt commit a moving violation on Coshocton Avenue while operating a yellow Honda motorcycle. Police attempted to pull Seavolt over but he allegedly ignored the siren and lights and led police on a pursuit from Coshocton Avenue to Chestnut and North Center streets, back to Coshocton Avenue, on Eastgate, Parkview and Hilltop drives, Beech Street and finally on Vernonview Drive.
Thatcher said police logged Seavolt at 90 miles per hour on Vernonview Drive, and watched as he passed several civilian vehicles in no-passing zones. Seavolt eventually wrecked his motorcycle in a ditch on Vernonview Drive, and then allegedly fled on foot into a wooded area.
Later, a witness contacted authorities to advise that he saw the motorcycle operator throw something off the side of the road near Center Run on Coshocton Avenue. Police then recovered a baggy containing a substance later tested and found to be marijuana.
Seavolt was also sentenced to three days in jail, which he had already served. He had his license suspended for six months and was ordered to undergo an outpatient drug/alcohol program.
In other court news, 25-year-old Leonard Pikaart was also sentenced to a total of three years in prison this morning for a number of felony drug and weapons charges.
In October, Mount Vernon Police raided a Chester Street residence, arresting Pikaart. They seized cocaine and several thousand dollars in cash along with several semiautomatic assault rifles, pistols and a stockpile of ammunition.
