Health board declares old middle school a nuisance
MOUNT VERNON -- The old middle school at 301 N. Mulberry St. has formally been declared a nuisance, and the owner has been given 21 days to clean it up or face possible court proceedings. The Knox County Board of Health took the action at its meeting Wednesday night.

MOUNT VERNON -- Speeding and driver inexperience are the two leading causes of winter traffic accidents, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Local school bus drivers go through background checks, training
MOUNT VERNON -- For various reasons, some school districts enter into contracts with bus companies to provide both drivers and buses to transport children to school. In Knox County, all school bus drivers are employees of the various school districts, and, according to Judy Moore, transportation coordinator for Fredericktown Local Schools, that can make a difference in the dedication of the drivers.

MOUNT VERNON -- Riding high from a pair of weekend wins, including one over state-ranked Dublin Scioto, the Mount Vernon High School boys basketball team is preparing for a another big weekend. The Jackets have games at Pickerington Central on Friday and at Marysville on Saturday.

MV senior girls to be honored
MOUNT VERNON -- Stuck in the midst of a four-game losing streak, the Mount Vernon High School girls basketball team is refocusing for the postseason after falling out of the conference race with back-to-back losses. The Yellow Jackets, fresh off a 56-41 loss to Hilliard Darby on Tuesday, dropped a 51-42 game at Worthington Kilbourne on Friday night.
