Commissioners eyeing Upper Gilchrist Road for new Senior Citizens Center
MOUNT VERNON -- The Knox County Commissioners are leaning toward using land the county already owns on Upper Gilchrist Road for the construction of a new Knox County Senior Citizens Center.

Future of Station Break discussed
MOUNT VERNON -- The immediate and long-term future of The Station Break came under discussion when the Knox County Commissioners met with the members of The Station Break board of directors Thursday morning.

Contingency plan offered for New Hope facility
MOUNT VERNON -- Facilities and services for individuals with developmental disabilities, as well as giving them authentic choices, are ongoing concerns for those individuals, their families, advocates and other community members. Worried that New Hope Industries may be phased out if participation there decreases too much, Sadie Hunter, executive director of People First of Ohio, and Joellen Hunter, advocacy director, presented a contingency plan to the Knox County Commissioners on Thursday afternoon.

Coe excited about COTC moving into Knox County
FREDERICKTOWN -- Dr. Bonnie Coe, president of Central Ohio Technical College and a special guest at the 27th annual meeting of the Fredericktown Community Development Foundation, said she is excited about developing COTC campuses in Knox County. “Everyone has been so excited and supportive,”she said.

Seton Bereavement Ministry to be offered
MOUNT VERNON -- St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church is hosting this year’s installment of the Seton Bereavement Ministry, but the eight-week program is ecumenical and open to all people of all faiths. It is meeting on Mondays at 7 p.m. in the church rectory, 303 E. High St., and runs through March 19. There is no charge to participate.

Jackets declaw Tigers
MOUNT VERNON -- The Mount Vernon High School wrestling team celebrated Senior Night in winning fashion on Thursday night. Hosting the Pickerington Central Tigers, the Yellow Jackets romped to a 43-30 victory. With the win, Mount Vernon improved to 4-0 in the Ohio Capital Conference Cardinal Division, which sets up a showdown at Olentangy on Thursday for the title. The Braves beat Worthington Kilbourne, 60-10, to remain undefeated as well.

Freddies down Redbirds
FREDERICKTOWN -- “Always the bridesmaid, never the bride.”For the second year in a row, the Fredericktown High School girls basketball finished runner up in the race for the Mid-Buckeye Conference title to Utica. The Freddies’45-27 win over Loudonville Thursday night ties them for second place at 11-3 with Johnstown.

Trojans shoot past Blue Devils
CENTERBURG -- A strong start leads to a victorious finish for the Centerburg High School girls basketball team at home on Thursday night. The Trojans took on the Danville Blue Devils, winning, 67-36, in Mid-Buckeye Conference play.

Tygers pull away from host Colts
BELLVILLE -- The Mansfield Senior High School girls basketball team pulled away in the final quarter to beat the Clear Fork Colts, 51-38, in Ohio Cardinal Conference action on Thursday.

Scots pick up win over Eagles
SPARTA -- It took about three quarters to get going, but the Highland High School girls basketball team finally pulled things together and defeated Gilead Christian, 50-41, in their matchup Thursday night. The game was extremely tight through the first three quarters, but Highland used a burst of intensity to pull away down the stretch.
