Assessment team tours Mount Vernon

RELATED

The revitalization of downtown Mount Vernon has been an on-going goal for many years. The Heritage Center Association has recently taken steps to identify and resolve issues surrounding revitalization plans.

The first major step, according to John Marsh, downtown manager for HCA, is to become involved with the Ohio Main Street program. This program promotes historic preservation and economic development in downtown business districts.

As part of the HCA’s involvement with the Ohio Main Street program, a downtown assessment resource team visited Mount Vernon and toured the city with government, business and community leaders to inspect the city’s infrastructure and identify issues that might impact revitalization plans.

The HCA is not a downtown merchants association. Rather it concerns itself with heritage and preservation issues. Nonetheless, it hopes to be able to come up with some answers to revitalization issues and stabilize its efforts to preserve downtown and work with the government and business community to further increase the development and preservation of downtown Mount Vernon.
