Sheriff investigating vandalism

MOUNT VERNON — The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a rash of weekend vandalism complaints from the Centerburg area.

Sheriff David Barber, whose office received eight complaints over the weekend, said the majority of the vehicles had their windows broken out using bricks or pieces of cement.

Barber said the complaints are under investigation, and added that he does not believe the Centerburg incidents are related to the recent string of vehicle vandalism in the Mount Vernon area.

On Saturday, city police arrested three teenagers in connection with the Mount Vernon vandalism complaints; the 19-year-olds will likely be charged with felonies. Officers also recovered the BB gun allegedly used by the teenagers, a CO2-powered weapon with a laser sight.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is also investigating another unrelated vandalism report from Union Township, where township trustees reported on Friday night that unknown vandals shot the township garage with orange paintballs, also striking a township vehicle.

Anyone with information in either of these cases is asked to call the Knox County Sheriff’s Detective Division at 393-6800.
