Site unveiled for senior citizens center
MOUNT VERNON -- Recently, the Knox County Commissioners unveiled the proposed site plan for a new senior citizens center on Upper Gilchrist Road.

Swallow sets goals as hospice director
MOUNT VERNON -- Education is a centerpiece of Austin Swallow’s vision for Hospice of Knox County. He also wants to help the organization meet the future needs of its citizens.

Tough winter for Snow Trails Ski Resort
MOUNT VERNON -- An early, mild winter and late winter blast of cold weather made for an average year for Snow Trails Ski Resort in Mansfield, reported Marketing Manager Nate Wolleson. He added that the 2006-07 winter season was much the same for all others in the ski industry.

Dance-A-Thon at Kenyon raises $400
GAMBIER -- A good-sized crowd of Kenyon College students and others from the community showed up for Saturday’s Dance-A-Thon in the Gund Commons Ballroom. The fund-raiser benefited Stewart’s Caring Place in Akron and more than $400 was raised. Several sororities and organizations planned and hosted the event.

Packed house for Ignite the Flame event at Lakeholm
MOUNT VERNON -- The Will Graham Celebration office printed 350 programs for its youth-oriented Ignite the Flame prayer event on Sunday evening at Lakeholm Church of the Nazarene, but ran out just minutes after the event began.

Church leaders, volunteers get training as counselors
MOUNT VERNON -- Church leaders and other volunteers met on Saturday morning at the Covenant Christian Church of God for what the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association calls a Follow-Up Discipleship Seminar, in advance of October’s Will Graham Celebration in Gambier. An identical seminar took place the previous day at New Life Nazarene Church on Newark Road.

Scots knock off Blue Devils
DANVILLE -- With the approaching start of conference play, the Danville and Highland high school baseball teams gathered at the Blue Devils’field on Saturday for a single game. Finishing the contest just before the gray skies burst open, the Fighting Scots were able to win, 8-3.

Jackets pick up two more victories
MOUNT VERNON -- The rain came down on Saturday afternoon, but it could not slow down the Mount Vernon High School softball team from picking up two victories. The Yellow Jackets improved to 3-0 on the season by defeating Bishop Watterson, 5-3, in the first game, while knocking off Licking Valley, 10-5, in the second game.

MVNU dedicates new softball field
MOUNT VERNON -- Two of years of planning and hard work finally paid off on Saturday at the Mount Vernon Nazarene softball doubleheader against Walsh University. The Grand Opening Ceremony for New Cougar Field took place, and Director of Mount Vernon Nazarene Facilities Services Department Denny Taylor threw out the first pitch.
