MOUNT VERNON -- For the third year, the Knox County Board of Commissioners met Monday morning in front of the Memorial Building with staff of the Knox County Department of Job &Family Services to declare April Child Abuse Prevention Month in the county.

DANVILLE -- The Danville Village Council gave a first reading Monday on a grant proposal that would provide funds for the building of an ODOT welcome center in the village.

GAMBIER -- Council discussed the planned installation of a new heating and cooling system for the village community center at Monday’s meeting.

FREDERICKTOWN -- The art movement may be gaining a stronghold in Fredericktown.

CENTERBURG -- Centerburg Village Council met Monday evening, with all council members in attendance. Mayor Dennis Sykes was absent, as he is on vacation. Andy Wharton led the meeting.

MOUNT VERNON -- The Knox County Health Department honored its Partners in Public Health at a breakfast this morning at the health department.

HOWARD -- A lot of emphasis is put toward getting runners on base. It also helps to be able to bring them in once there are out there.

For 1957 Mount Vernon graduate and standout basketball player Richie Hoyt, it brings back old memories.

MOUNT VERNON -- A small group of dedicated Ohio State University fans gathered at Sips Coffee House in disappointment as the Buckeyes fell to Florida in the national championship game on Monday night. The phrase “pull his hair”seemed to pop up throughout the game as often as “shoot it”or “go Bucks.”If there was one thing all the spectators could agree on, it was wanting to see Greg Oden give Joakim Noah’s pony tail a good yank or two.
