Police investigating apparent break-in
MOUNT VERNON -- Mount Vernon Police are investigating an apparent break-in at the First-Knox National Bank branch office on Blackjack Road.

Guard a viable option for area residents
MOUNT VERNON -- For a variety of reasons, an increasing number of young people are choosing the Army National Guard as a career option, and Ohio has one of the highest number of recruits in the nation. A number of Knox County residents have recently joined the Guard, and shared their motivations with the News.

Recycle papers on Earth Day
MOUNT VERNON -- Area residents will get a chance to help the environment and receive a free gift again this year on Earth Day. The Mount Vernon News will be collecting newspapers and magazines for recycling from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 21, at the News’loading docks on South Gay Street.

Fire inspections make it safe for owners, customers (VIDEO)
CENTERBURG -- The Central Ohio Joint Fire District has been making safety inspections at businesses in recent weeks, and expects to continue until all businesses within the district have been inspected.

Tygers bite Clear Fork
BELLVILLE -- Only a handful of fans -- and a few buckets of snowflakes -- where present to watch the Clear Fork High School baseball team take on Mansfield Senior in Bellville on Wednesday. The air was cold, but Mansfield Senior was able to keep its bats hot in the extra inning of play to win the game, 12-9.

Colts dump Tygers
BELLVILLE -- Driving down Main Street in Bellville, the digital sign attached to a local bank switched from 6:20 p.m. to read 30 degrees on Wednesday night. It wasn’t long before, that across town, members of the Clear Fork softball team and a small cluster of devoted fans were experiencing the wintry weather firsthand.
