Martinsburg fills vacant seats on council, mayor
MARTINSBURG -- Martinsburg Village Council met without a mayor for its first meeting of 2008 Monday evening. Otherwise, all council members were in attendance except Stacy Swanson, who gave birth to a baby boy last week.

Fredericktown, county discuss sewer project
FREDERICKTOWN -- The gallery was full at Monday night's regular session of the Fredericktown Village Council, when the Knox County Commissioners asked village officials if they were open to the possibility of allowing wastewater connections from the Knox Lake community to connect to the village sewer system.

Gambier fills council seat
GAMBIER -- The Gambier Village Council filled a void, heard reports and set up upcoming meetings at its meeting Monday.

Council decides against buying old armory
MOUNT VERNON -- In a straw vote, City Council unanimously said no to the idea of purchasing the old armory building on North Main Street during a committee meeting on Monday.

New board members sworn in at MV
MOUNT VERNON -- New board members Sharon Fair and Jody Goetzman, along with re-elected board member Margie Bennett, took the oath of office when the Mount Vernon Board of Education met Monday night.

Commissioners, sheriff discuss budget
MOUNT VERNON -- Knox County Sheriff David Barber met with the Knox County Commissioners on Monday to discuss his budget for 2008.

Commissioners plan to extend current waste and wastewater contracts
MOUNT VERNON -- The Knox County Commissioners met Monday with Richard Stallard and Randy Pore from the Regional Planning Commission to continue the process of identifying potential areas for the future growth of the city of Mount Vernon. This comes as the long-standing water and wastewater contracts between the city and the county expire in early February.

Groups to create plan for foreclosures
MOUNT VERNON -- The Chief Justice of the Ohio Supreme Court recently released a statement asking Ohio attorneys to begin offering their services pro bono (without charge) to assist the courts with the growing number of foreclosure cases.

New video store to open soon
MOUNT VERNON -- Area residents should be able to rent movies at the new Family Video store on Coshocton Avenue by the end of the month.

Quilt raffle raises funds for scholarship
MOUNT VERNON -- Frances Sturtevant, a longtime resident of Mount Vernon and Bellville who passed away in November 2005, was a master quilter and a member of the Lucy Knox Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She and her daughter, Gwen Wallot, joined the DAR in 2001 through the lineage of patriot John Garrett.
