GAMBIER — The Gambier Village Council filled a void, heard reports and set up upcoming meetings at its meeting Monday.
Susan Sukys was appointed to fill the vacant seat on council. No candidates filed to run for the position last November, so Sukys was appointed to fill the void.
Council also heard reports from Mayor Kirk Emmert and Village Administrator Suzanne Hopkins. Emmert commended the village crews in their handling of snow and ice removal, noted the village has experienced some water loss in recent months and helped set the council retreat for Sunday, Jan. 20, at 3 p.m. At the retreat, council is expected to discuss the Sustainability Group’s report on the future of downtown, a report on the future of the College Township Fire Department, and other long-range plans.
Hopkins reported on a proposal from AEP to remove trees on the right of way on Ackland Street and on the leak detection work by village crews. She also noted the dog park is open and being used by village residents.
Council also set an open meeting to discuss the proposed storm water utility. The meeting will be Monday, Jan. 21, at 7 p.m.; the public is invited to bring questions and comments for Jim Roberts of Jobes Henderson Engineering. Council also voted to continue holding its regular meetings the first Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m.
In other business, council had readings on several ordinances. Council had a third and final reading on an ordinance which amended an ordinance from 1999 on the review of zoning applications. There were second readings on ordinances which will adopt a formal lift station policy, change the due date of employer income tax payments and establishing Chester Lane as a one-way street. There was also a first reading on an ordinance compensating village water and wastewater workers when they get their licenses.
Council adjourned at 8:27 p.m.
