Kno-Ho-Co to rehabilitate Hillside Apartments (VIDEO)
MOUNT VERNON -- Some of the buildings may look rough and run down at the moment, but a major rehab project at the Hillside Apartment Community should change the look of the complex for the better and provide attractive rental housing to low- and moderate-income individuals and families in the county. The $1,965,000 rehab project got under way in December, after state and federal funding was obtained, according to Donna Denning, human resource director for the agency. The buildings had long since fallen into disrepair.

MV man charged with burglary
MOUNT VERNON -- Daniel R. Shannon, 20, 15 E. Vine St., confessed to police he was the man that Donald Yauger saw in his home at 105 N. Gay St., Wednesday afternoon. After the investigation, Knox County Prosecutor John Thatcher charged Shannon with burglary and safe cracking Thursday.

Indictments returned in 12 felony cases
MOUNT VERNON -- Indictments were returned in 12 cases on Jan. 7 by a Knox County Grand Jury for various felony crimes. Arraignments are scheduled for Jan. 18 at 9 a.m. in the Knox County Court of Common Pleas before Judge Otho Eyster.

MOUNT VERNON -- Candidates have filed for various offices in Knox County's Primary Election, which will be March 4.

Fredericktown learns protocol for threats
FREDERICKTOWN -- Capt. Mike Kyle, a 30-year veteran of the Ashland County Bomb Squad, gave members of the Fredericktown police and fire departments, and Fredericktown school officials a wealth of information and a list of updated scenarios regarding school bomb threats at an informational meeting Thursday night.

Freddies get by Trojans in OT
FREDERICKTOWN -- Each game is getting just a little tougher for the undefeated Fredericktown High School girls basketball team. The Centerburg Trojans nearly beat them Thursday night, in an overtime nailbiter in Fredericktown. The Freddies won, 43-40.

Jackets defeat Celtics in duel
MOUNT VERNON -- The Mount Vernon High School wrestling team hosted its first duel meet of the season on Thursday night at Pleasant Street Elementary School.
