MOUNT VERNON — Indictments were returned in 12 cases on Jan. 7 by a Knox County Grand Jury for various felony crimes. Arraignments are scheduled for Jan. 18 at 9 a.m. in the Knox County Court of Common Pleas before Judge Otho Eyster.
According to Knox County Prosecutor John Thatcher, Shane Lee Green, 32, Mount Vernon, is charged with rape and gross sexual imposition. Thatcher said, on Dec. 21, 2007, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office received a report that Green allegedly molested his 8-year-old daughter on separate occasions between May 1 and July 7, 2007, in his Mount Vernon apartment. On Dec. 24, Green allegedly confessed to the molestation during an interview conducted by Capt. Richard C. Brenneman. Thatcher said Green is being held in the Knox County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
Michael A. Puluso, 23, Mount Vernon, is accused of gross sexual imposition for allegedly molesting his 8-year-old niece in her Mount Vernon residence, on Nov. 29, 2007. Thatcher said, on Nov. 30, 2007, the girl’s father placed a call to the Mount Vernon Police Department when his daughter first disclosed the alleged sexual abuse. Cpl. Beth Marti, MVPD, responded to the call, and Puluso allegedly confessed to the molestation during his interview with Marti. Thatcher said Puluso is being held in the Knox County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
Dale A. Woody, 21, Mount Vernon, faces five breaking and entering charges and two safecracking charges. On Dec. 19, 2007, Woody and an accomplice, Keith W. Carder, 19, Mount Vernon, allegedly broke into a business on West Gambier Street where Woody allegedly pried open a safe, locked file cabinet and cash drawer. Woody and Carder then allegedly broke into another West Gambier Street business where Woody allegedly attempted to pry open a safe with a crow bar. Thatcher said Woody is also charged with breaking into a church on Wooster Road, a storage building on Duff Street in Gambier, and a barn on Coshocton Road, Mount Vernon, on separate occasions last November, and Carder faces a burglary charge for allegedly breaking into a West Gambier Street residence. Detective Cpl. Matt Dailey, Det. Craig Feeney and Sgt. Troy Glazier, MVPD, and Det. Roger Brown, KCSO, investigated the Woody and Carder cases.
James C. Beach Jr., 34, Mount Vernon, was indicted for burglary. Thatcher said, on Nov. 21, 2007, Beach allegedly entered a Coshocton Avenue apartment without the permission of the occupant where he stole a number of gold necklaces and a PlayStation. Detective Cpl. Matt Dailey, MVPD, secured surveillance camera footage showing Beach entering the apartment building and the statement of a witness who allegedly saw Beach entering the apartment. Dailey also recovered a portion of the stolen jewelry Beach allegedly sold at two pawn shops, in Newark.
Dustin McDowell, 18, Mount Vernon, was indicted on two counts of breaking and entering. Thatcher said on Dec. 5, 2007, at about 3:15 a.m., Sgt. Troy Glazier and other MVPD officers responded to a suspicious person call on Coshocton Avenue where McDowell was arrested for obstructing official business and criminal trespass. Glazier followed the footprints McDowell left in the snow back to an East Ohio Avenue business that had been broken into. Later that morning, McDowell allegedly confessed to Det. Craig Feeney, MVPD, that he broke into the East Ohio Avenue business and another business on Howard Street.
Debra L. Gallogly, 41, Lane Road, Centerburg, is accused of two counts of grand theft. Thatcher said Gallogly was employed at a Westerville medical office until May 31, 2006, when an accountant became alarmed about canceled checks he received from businesses that had supplied no products or services to the medical office. The accountant turned the matter over to Det. Stacy Pentecost of the Westerville Police Department who discovered that Gallogly allegedly stole over $40,000 from her employer by writing checks to herself from the office account. Pentecost then contacted Detective Sgt. Jeff Jacobs, MVPD, who investigated Gallogly because for several years she was the bookkeeper for a nonprofit corporation located in Knox County that provides services to the mentally disabled. Thatcher said Gallogly allegedly stole over $30,000 from the nonprofit corporation by writing checks for her personal use from the corporation’s account.
Gerald A. Crump, 27, Columbus, was indicted for possessing a stolen 2001 Kawasaki motorcycle, on Nov. 30, 2007. Thatcher said an anonymous tip and investigation by Crump’s Municipal Court Probation Officer, Rene Joris, led to the execution of a search warrant by Detective Sgt. Gary Rohler, KCSO, and Det. Craig Feeney, MVPD. The detectives found the motorcycle hidden in a storage building where Crump was living at the time, in Fredericktown.
Aaron J. Kosier, 20, was indicted for possessing a stolen laptop computer on Nov. 11, 2007. Thatcher said Deputy Dan Bobo, KCSO, conducted an inventory search of Kosier’s vehicle after stopping him near Apple Valley Drive for driving under suspension. Bobo discovered the allegedly stolen $1,500 laptop hidden under the driver’s seat. The laptop belongs to a student at a local college.
Matthew F. Lord, 22, Mount Vernon, is charged with theft for allegedly taking a car trailer, on June 1, 2006, but failing to deliver the $1,000 he agreed to pay a Mount Vernon resident for the trailer. Lord also failed to return the trailer. Det. Roger Brown, KCSO, handled the case.
According to the indictment, Teresa L. Brown, 42, Fredericktown, allegedly passed a bad check in the amount of $500 at a Knox County car dealership, on Aug. 3, 2007. Lt. Jay Sheffer of the Fredericktown Police Department investigated the case.
Glenn S. Stackhouse III, 27, Mount Vernon, faces charges of forgery and theft by deception. Thatcher said, on Oct. 25, 2007, Stackhouse allegedly deposited a $4,350 counterfeit check into his account at a local bank, then he withdrew $1,000 from the account the next day. Thatcher said Stackhouse was charged with theft by deception because his account was overdrawn by over $1,000 when he deposited the counterfeit check. Detective Cpl. Matt Dailey, MVPD, investigated the case.
