5 felony cases heard in common pleas

MOUNT VERNON — Common Pleas Judge Otho Eyster ruled on five felony cases on Friday.

Warren “Brad” Taylor, 30, Danville, was sentenced to 11 months in prison for receiving stolen property, a fifth-degree felony, and misdemeanor petty theft. According to Knox County Prosecutor John Thatcher, Taylor used a stolen ATM card to withdraw $200 from a Morrow County woman’s account. Thatcher also said that Taylor was arrested over the weekend for attempting to break into a Mount Vernon business. Taylor was ordered to repay the $200 to the victim’s bank.

Josh A. Fincher, 23, Gambier, was sentenced to 15 months in prison for violating the terms of his probation. Fincher was originally sentenced in May 2005 to three years of community control for one count of aggravated assault in the fourth degree. In October 2007, Fincher was arrested in Morrow County for possessing physical control of a motor vehicle while intoxicated and operating a motor vehicle without a valid license. Fincher will receive credit for 100 days of jail time already served.

Tiffany A. Campbell, 25, Mount Vernon, also appeared in court for violating her community control sanctions. In April 2007, Campell was sentenced to three years of probation for three felony counts of receiving stolen property and two counts of forgery, all fifth-degree felonies. Campbell admitted in court that on Oct. 19, 2007, she left the area for whereabouts unknown, she failed to appear for four after-care meetings, and she failed to maintain full-time employment. Campbell was ordered to serve 11 months in prison on each of the five felony counts, to be served concurrently.

Leanda K. Cline, 28, Mount Vernon, pleaded guilty in December 2006 to one count of trafficking in marijuana, a fourth-degree felony. Based on an agreement with prosecutors, Cline was sentenced to three years of community control, a six-month driver’s license suspension, and was ordered to pay $25 in restitution to the Mount Vernon Police Department for money acquired during a drug buy. Thatcher recommended the community control sentence in return for Cline’s testimony against her boyfriend, Marcus Clemons, 37, who was arrested with Cline in August by MVPD’s Emergency Service Unit after allegedly selling marijuana to a confidential informant. Police allegedly recovered over six pounds of marijuana from Clemons’ basement.

Keith W. Carder, 19, Mount Vernon, appeared before Eyster for a bail hearing. Carder was recently indicted and arrested for one count of third-degree burglary and two counts of fifth-degree breaking and entering. Eyster ordered Carder held on a $25,000 bond without the 10 percent provision. Carder is next scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 18 for arraignment.
