MOUNT VERNON — The aroma of Greek food is wafting from the inside of the old Bemiller Carpet store on West Gambier Street, where a new restaurant just opened.
On Saturday, John Tsavaris opened Tiffany’s Restaurant Carryout and Pizzeria at 207 W. Gambier St. In addition to Greek food such as gyros, Greek salad, a kind of Greek shiskabab called souvlaki and Greek lasagna, he serves pizza, sandwiches and American food. Currently, orders are available by carryout and delivery only, although Tsavaris said he plans to offer sit-down dining in the future.
Tsavaris is originally from Greece and came to the United States in his early 20s. In 1974, he opened the original Tiffany’s Restaurant on Coshocton Avenue, in what is now the Kroger plaza, and ran it for 10 years before selling the business. More recently, he worked as a chef at Flapper’s Bar & Grille for about five years; he also worked at Rookies for the last eight months.
Tsavaris said he thought the time had come to start his own restaurant again, and decided to open at the available space at West Gambier Street. He said he wants to encourage people to come and enjoy the good, homemade food.
In other news, Paul Eddy of Mount Vernon became the new owner of Cosby Heating & Cooling at 10 College St. He took over the business from Ed and Jan Cosby, who owned it for the last 24 years.
“It’s a great business and it was a great opportunity for me,” he said.
Eddy had been part owner of Efficient Air in Columbus, and said he wanted to work closer to home. No policy or personnel changes are on the immediate horizon, he added.
Cosby Heating & Cooling employs 23 people.
