Feedback positive on new property tax statements
MOUNT VERNON -- The new Knox County property tax statements mailed last week are generating positive feedback among county taxpayers.

MOUNT VERNON -- Time will tell what the long-term effect of the Federal Reserve's decision to cut a key interest rate on Tuesday will be, but the move should be beneficial for some.

Council close to adopting '08 budget
MOUNT VERNON -- City Council reached a general agreement on a balanced 2008 budget on Tuesday that includes a number of public improvement projects, but the budget will not officially be adopted until council votes to approve it.

Many uncomfortable with the idea of cattle cloning
MOUNT VERNON -- In a move that has concerned some consumers, the Food and Drug Administration has said beef and dairy products from the offspring of cloned cattle are safe for human consumption. Noting a large degree of consumer unease with cloning, however, the U. S. Department of Agriculture has declared that an indefinite voluntary moratorium on the retailing of such products should remain in place until further testing bolsters consumer confidence in cloned animal products.

Unemployment rises in Knox County
MOUNT VERNON -- Unemployment in Knox County rose during the month of December, according to data released Tuesday by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. The rate is a full percentage point higher than it was a year ago.

Wolves take OT victory from MV
WORTHINGTON -- After an intense overtime period, the Mount Vernon High School boys basketball team fell on the road on Tuesday, losing to Worthington Kilbourne, 59-57.

Jackets get fantastic finish
MOUNT VERNON -- Anyone watching the high school girls basketball game between Mount Vernon and Worthington Kilbourne on Tuesday night could tell the outcome would depend on who had the ball last. In a game that neither team led by more than five points, it was a fantastic finish that left everyone in attendance talking.
