Something with good American cooking.
February 9, 2008, 7:13 am
A seafood restaurant.
February 9, 2008, 7:13 am
A ’50s or ’60s diner.
February 9, 2008, 7:14 am
“I would like to see an old fashioned drive-in. Whoever had the guts to set one up would be investing in a franchise. If I had the money, I’d turn it into a drive-in.
February 9, 2008, 7:14 am
A Denny’s.
February 9, 2008, 7:15 am
I think it’d be good if we had a restaurant along the lines of Max and Erma’s.
February 9, 2008, 7:17 am
Anything but fast food!!
February 9, 2008, 8:01 am
A family restaurant with a variety from soup & sandwiches to steak. We need FAMILY restaurants in Mt. Vernon.
February 9, 2008, 8:17 am
I would like to see a BW3 that serves hot wings and has a sports bar big screen tv been to 1 in Ashland Oh does really well always packed
February 9, 2008, 9:02 am
Rock N Roll Cafe
February 9, 2008, 9:07 am
BW3, been in the one in Ashland, I think it would work in Mt Vernon. We need a sports place and pub.
February 9, 2008, 9:10 am
A family restaurant? Does that mean somewhere that people go, without alcohol, so that little kids can run around, ignored by their parents, irritating other customers? Let's see...there's Barb's Diner, R & M Southside, the new Italian place, Herbie J's is re-opening at the Curtis...How about someplace with QUALITY food, better than good service, that can handle large groups of adults wishing to socialize. There are very few options in this area that can accommodate a large group without renting a hall.Oh...and to those begging for a wing/sports bar franchise? Why not support your locally owned independent establishments. The new owners of the Green Leaf property are not "mega-franchisees". They are a small group of investors with a few properties - small business is what makes this country great.
February 9, 2008, 9:22 am
Its already set up for it.. an car hop restaurant would be great .. the kids won't be running around disturbing others while they eat.
February 9, 2008, 9:51 am
dont forget we have Jakes and Ryan to isn't that a family restaurant. They tried that Tim then it sat empty for like 2 years and us tax payers were paying for a empty building. I understand its a small group of investors but why not try something different do we have a sport bar check out BW3 web site.
February 9, 2008, 10:05 am
I loved Green Leaf.Service was poor, but food was good. How about something similar.
February 9, 2008, 10:10 am
Either a blue plate special restaurant with a amish style menu or a nice steak house at reasonable prices using local cuts of meat from Lanning's or Smithhisler's
February 9, 2008, 10:13 am
Knox County does not have the demographics to support a BW3 - nor most other major franchises. That is why there are no major "casual dining" chains in Knox County. It's the Walmart attitude and economy.Personally, I would much rather eat Flapper's wings anyday over BW3. They just aren't open on Sunday.BW3 looked at the site. They contacted the local radio station inquiring about radio time for ads. They chose not to locate here.
February 9, 2008, 10:16 am
And, Ed....that is probably the best idea I've seen. There are other local restaurants who do support the local fresh meat companies.
February 9, 2008, 10:17 am
Id like to see an Olive Garden. We have no nice resteraunts, every time you try to go to ruby tuesdays or jakes on a friday or saturday night there packed and theres no place to park! The building would work out perfectly for an Olive Garden. Get something nice! We just got a tim hortons which we didnt need!
February 9, 2008, 10:17 am
Quaker Steak and Lube. The prices are reasonable and the food is good. The awning could be for bike parking.
February 9, 2008, 10:22 am
I would love to see something like Johnny Rockets. That way you could still keep the car hop. Plus have music at each table....
February 9, 2008, 10:24 am
A hot dog stand.
February 9, 2008, 10:28 am
Would love to see a Sonic! However we do need a great family dining restaurant like Red Lobster, Olive Garden, and a fabulas steak house!! Our steak houses are not as good as we could get! Also a Applebees would be awesome! Price are great, service is great, and food is great!
February 9, 2008, 11:18 am
I would LOVE to see an Olive Garden there! Mount Vernon is slowly working its way up to finally accommodating its people. I'm tired of always having to go to Mansfield, Newark, or Columbus for a good variety of choices for restaurants that are not fast food. (Although Mount Vernon does have some good "mom & pop" restaurants.)
February 9, 2008, 11:38 am
It would be nice to have a place like Texas Roadhouse or Logans. Yes we have Jake's but don't you have to order everything separate. These other places when you order your ribs or steak the sides come with it. All you can eat dinner rolls are great!!!
February 9, 2008, 12:06 pm
A BW3 would be great but last time I checked into the franchise, you need to own a minumum of two stores and theres a lot of accomodations the town has to meet. I've already checked it out!
February 9, 2008, 12:12 pm
would not matter ,
does this town have enough money to support an upscale restaurant??
then how about the help ?? seems to me good help is hard to find ! the service at most places in MTV sucks !!

February 9, 2008, 12:57 pm
I think the service in Mt. Vernon is great. We have a lot of variety for a smaller town. We do need another breakfast place or a BW3s would be well received.
February 9, 2008, 1:57 pm
HOOTERS. ...great wing joint...to bad the we dont have the women to support a joint like that in our town
February 9, 2008, 2:19 pm
theres only 1 place in town that has moderately effective service in town ..an International House of Pancakes , would be cool . but then again
good help is hard to find
good help is hard to find
February 9, 2008, 2:25 pm
I would really like to see Olive Garden come to town.Or something like Max and Erma's or Applebees.
February 9, 2008, 3:29 pm
I would like to see a Denny's, Or just a good ole fashion restaurant with good ole down home cooking. PLEASE leave the fat in my food. It's my choice not the goverment.
February 9, 2008, 3:36 pm
I Hop or Dennys Open 24 Hr
February 9, 2008, 3:41 pm
TEE JAYS
February 9, 2008, 4:16 pm
It's funny that this question should arise today. I just spoke with a person today that give me some input of what type of restaurant would be going in. As stated earlier this week in the Mount vernon
news. It will not be a franchise restaurant. It will be a place of different types of food. It may consist of a bar. The new owners don't know yet if they will open the drive up part as of yet. I hear it will be opening sometime in the near future.

February 9, 2008, 5:14 pm
something like Denny's a family breakfast restaurant something open 24 hours would be great...
February 9, 2008, 5:15 pm
I believe any of several different styles could successful. A family restaurant with a salad bar, in the vein of a Dutch Heritage would be popular. So would Italian style cuisine, as long as it was reasonable and good. My personal choice would be a seafood house, but I think an Italian or family style restaurant would be less of a risk. In short, whatever comes in, they HAVE to have competitive prices, good food and good service, if the intend to stick around. Newark and Mansfield are only a short drive away.
February 9, 2008, 6:02 pm
It would be real nice to have a place that serves coon, whistle pig and other wild game of the like. I'm sure there's a lot of men like me that have to wait until some kind of once a year coon dinner to eat real Knox Co. food. If we could bring our own beer it would be perfect.
February 9, 2008, 6:07 pm
damn right chuck lets eat us some coon. that good ole knox county meals is what we need. giddy up
February 9, 2008, 6:40 pm
I think we should have something in Mount Vernon with some high prices. I'm tired of eating out next to a bunch or poor red necks.
February 9, 2008, 7:46 pm
I would like to see a Olive Garden or a Red Lobster.
February 9, 2008, 8:14 pm
Does it matter what "we" want? Chinesse will prolly go in there. But i would love to see a Denny's or Sonic!
February 9, 2008, 8:15 pm
I HOP
February 9, 2008, 8:44 pm
Popeye's!
February 9, 2008, 9:16 pm
Fazoli's
February 9, 2008, 9:57 pm
Steak and Shake
February 9, 2008, 9:59 pm
A family style resturant like Red Robin would be great. Area need someplace we can recommend to visitors.
February 9, 2008, 10:15 pm
Quality food, good service, and no grease for once. A restaurant that has a good menu of healthier food to choose from.
February 9, 2008, 10:23 pm
Something along the lines of MCL Cafeteria (in Columbus) would do really well. Their food is great, you pick what you want and it is always crowded with people wanting variety and quality. Go visit one (Westerville's?) and try for yourself.
February 9, 2008, 11:01 pm
We don't need another booger bar like Ryan's where the pigs go for their slop and transmit their germs to everyone else's food. Good service is the most important along with good food that is consistent.
February 9, 2008, 11:51 pm
My husband always calls Ryan's "The Hog Trough"! Looks like he's not the only one.
February 10, 2008, 12:33 am
a place that serves only corn products and sells ethanol fuel.
February 10, 2008, 8:35 am
Sonic or BW3's
February 10, 2008, 9:17 am
maybe a mom and pop pizza parlor that offered special types of pizza and subs that had all the herbal spices and fungal fun you would need!!!!!and if the servers were very large in certian areas and barely clothed that would be even better!!!!!!!!!!!
February 10, 2008, 9:46 am
A Bennigans would be a great choice. They are mostly up north but have a wide variety of food and are always busy at lunch and dinner and have resonable prices. They also have trivia and several tv's on one side of the restaurant.
February 10, 2008, 9:46 am
The Soup and Salad Plantation, where you have healthy choices of soups and salads. This town needs something healthy.
February 10, 2008, 10:40 am
Ruth's Chris.....one can dream.
February 10, 2008, 10:41 am
White Castle
February 10, 2008, 11:44 am
Ohhhhh...I would love a Red Lobster!Or a nice place that would be open 24 hrs.
February 10, 2008, 12:15 pm
Olive garden, Paneras, Cosi, something different please.
February 10, 2008, 12:30 pm
I would love to see a fun "hang out" restaurant like the type of atmosphere that you would find at Buffalo Wild Wings. This area has several colleges and plenty of young adults that would love a place to hang out and chow down.
February 10, 2008, 12:47 pm
Popeye's, Fazoli's, or Olive Garden. Those would be MY picks.
February 10, 2008, 1:52 pm
What Knox County needs is a place where people can get a nice Christian meal. Right now when I take my grandkids to dinner in Knox County every place is full of drunks playing loud music and taking the Lords name in vain. Also the food tends to be spicy. We need a meat and potatoes place where everyone says a blessing before eating. Not spicy Devil food and a beer before dinner. Amen!
February 10, 2008, 1:59 pm
A NICE FAMILY DINNER WITH DECENT CUSTUMERS THAT DONT CUSS AND WAITREESSES WAIT EQUALLY ON ALL AGES AND GENDERS NOT STAND AND FLIRT WITH THE MEN\
February 10, 2008, 2:23 pm
An Olive Garden would be great! 2nd choice would be Red Lobster.
Really good family Italian always welcome too.
Really good family Italian always welcome too.
February 10, 2008, 4:01 pm
Sonic, Quaker Steak and Lube, CiCi's Pizza
February 10, 2008, 4:12 pm
I would like a restaurant that you can dress nicely for and cloth napkins.Kinda of a place for special memories that make you want to go back because it was especailly nice.
February 10, 2008, 4:13 pm
I believe the area has a real shortage on home cooked meals style eaterys
February 10, 2008, 4:18 pm
I know the new owners stipulated no "chain restaurants" but I don't believe that would of ever of been a possibility. Remember Red Lobsters has to look, like a Red Lobster, and the same goes for Olive Garden, Roadhouse etc. There's no reason this place can't loosely base their style from any of these though. Just please not another China Buffet.
February 10, 2008, 4:47 pm
we have more chinese, and pizza places around--but we have to go to sunbury for a "white castle"
February 10, 2008, 5:56 pm
I don't think it really matters what style of restaurant we would like. I'm just glad it is finally being re-opened as it is a prime location.
February 10, 2008, 7:14 pm
i would love to see a steak house go there.like road house. or red lobster love that place!!
February 10, 2008, 7:20 pm
Olive Garden
February 10, 2008, 7:31 pm
Cooker's SUCK.... why not a classy joint like ponderosa. hell thats a nice sit down dinner. we dont need anything fancy like a cookers
February 10, 2008, 9:11 pm
How about Buffalo Wild Wings or Humperdinks????
February 10, 2008, 9:14 pm
i think we need Denny's to run bobby evans to run the hell out of here!!!
February 10, 2008, 10:14 pm
A family style restaurant like one I would like to open. One that serves good down home comfort food as well as steaks and sea food, lots of salads/soups and homemade desserts. One with great service, clean and have a wonderful atmosphere. A place you would want to go to to make memories.
February 10, 2008, 10:29 pm
We need Factories and real employment for Knox County not another minimum wage go nowhere job. There's too many restaurants already. No wonder we are all overweight
February 10, 2008, 11:44 pm
An I-HOP! That would be the perfect place! A place where families could go and enjoy a good sit down meal! Too bad the owner can't be more opened minded about what the people want! Seems like they are wanting a higher priced place that the people of Mount Vernon can't really afford! I mean come on people, think about it! An I-HOP would make money hand over fist here! A Red Lobster, Olive Garden and a Spaghetti Warehouse would be my next choice's!
February 11, 2008, 6:38 am
Olive Garden , in fact the Green Leaf already resembles an Olive Garden and it wouldnt take much to get it up and running. Mount Vernon needs a good quality, established family restaurant that an Olive Garden provides.
February 11, 2008, 6:58 am
I think we need a sports bar type of place. Somewhere that you can go on Sunday to get some good food and a beer and watch the Browns. There is not a place in town that you can go on Sundays for the games.
February 11, 2008, 7:43 am
An Olive Garden style resteraunt would be nice. Red Lobster, Max & Ermas or BW3's would be my next picks.
February 11, 2008, 8:03 am
BW3's. there needs to be more places for the 30 year old's in Mount Vernon.
February 11, 2008, 8:22 am
We have plenty of family restaurants in this town. If you want a family-style meal, stay home and cook it. How about a wings/steak/ribs place with televisions around to watch sporting events? Doesn't need to be a chain to accomplish that... The Fox hole??? Get real.
February 11, 2008, 9:23 am
How about an outback steak house or even a just an old fashion restaurant. We also need some more steady employment here also instead of fast food and department stores.
February 11, 2008, 9:48 am
Ger real people! 99% of the people in Knox Co. don't have the money or mentality to eat at some fancy chain resturant. What we really like is a gentlemans club that serves food and perhaps has a ladies night with male dancers. We're home of the "Ruff Truck" contest not some city slicker $20 meal place.
February 11, 2008, 10:40 am
The first ever In-N-Out Burger west of the Rockies.... make mine a Double-Double combo with a chocoalte milk shake... and oh yeah, give me one of them new t-shirts, yea, the one with the Baracuda on it.GIDDT-UP!!
February 11, 2008, 10:42 am
IF THE NEW OWNERS DON'T HAVE AN IDEA OF WHAT RESTAURANT TO PUT IN AT THE OLD GREEN LEAF, THEN I SAY-- GOOD LUCK
February 11, 2008, 11:10 am
I think Mount Vernon needs a Sonic. So they should put one at the former Green Leaf Restaurant. If they were I know I would try to be there everyday.
February 11, 2008, 11:26 am
I think it should be a teens club for us teens. like from the ages 13 to 19. That would be nice to have.
February 11, 2008, 11:29 am
I would like to see a BW3's or a Max and Ermas go in.
February 11, 2008, 11:43 am
The site is too large for a Chipotle, but that's what I'd really love to see here in town! Otherwise a seafood or sports bar type would be just great. Quaker Steak & Lube is an outstanding choice as well.
February 11, 2008, 11:45 am
I agree with Dorothy that a Chipotle needs to come to Mount Vernon ANYWHERE! As for as the Green Leaf, Olive Garden would be nice...
February 11, 2008, 11:51 am
How bout a cheers
February 11, 2008, 11:54 am
If you went for a franchise, then IHOP would be a good choice, as would Steak and Shake. The owners might be better of copying a format from a chain or franchise, as franchises often cost way into the six figure area.
February 11, 2008, 11:56 am
A good Italian style wood be a nice addition to the area.
February 11, 2008, 12:34 pm
The way I see it is everyone is forgetin yours roots. We anit Italian, Chinese, Mexican or Chicken eaters! We are Americans darn it! home to the Busch Series, and put-put golf, Coon dinners and Red Fire Trucks. Maybe the Green Left could reopen as is, but not as a restaurant, but as a monument to Knox countians, maybe with a sweat lazer tag course and a modeling / talent agency, we need to get our little tators on a fast track to Hollywood!
February 11, 2008, 12:59 pm
Something open 24 hours or something fancy you can go to on a date.
February 11, 2008, 1:00 pm
giddy up. we sure do need a gentlemans club...maybe serve a coon dinner and get a lap dance at the same time....they better have that good ole PBR on tap and if they are really high class they better get the high life....
February 11, 2008, 1:03 pm
Quick - someone get a dictionary over to Daniel D.E.'s house in a hurry!!
February 11, 2008, 1:14 pm
please bring sonic to mount vernon,i'd be there every day!
February 11, 2008, 1:14 pm
wings and beer..maybe a stripper or two..
February 11, 2008, 1:19 pm
i would like to see a Red Lobster go in.
February 11, 2008, 1:25 pm
how bout a place that has the little cage in the middle of the table and they put the lil monkey in faces of death and they wack it in the skull w/wooden hammers and then ummm eat its brains yea ummm yea
February 11, 2008, 1:27 pm
Man we sure could use another subway d also i still have my spidey blankie
February 11, 2008, 1:29 pm
Oh, please! We need an Olive Garden!
February 11, 2008, 1:40 pm
Buffalo Wild WingsYea Baby!
February 11, 2008, 1:48 pm
I would like to see a Red Robin or O'Charley's.
February 11, 2008, 1:50 pm
I think we need a sonic i would be there DAILY!!!!!!!!!
i love my sonic
i love my sonic
February 11, 2008, 1:57 pm
I would like to see an upscale deli come in.
February 11, 2008, 2:04 pm
I think it sucks that I have to drive to Columbus/Newark/Mansfield to get an upper class meal. I'd really love to be able to have a romantic kind of meal with my significant other. How about a decent priced replica of Brio or Ocean Club?
February 11, 2008, 2:06 pm
A Texas Roadhouse! Great food and very reasonable prices -- from 4-6 pm you can get 2 meals for $13.99! Plus, the atmosphere is wonderful! Give Jakes a run for their money!
February 11, 2008, 2:15 pm
We think a very nice and healthier
place to eat. Alot of people trying to wtch their diets are actually forced to stay at home or leave town. Whole wheat and whole grains a option for those people also. Have a healthy variety and reg menu would be great!
place to eat. Alot of people trying to wtch their diets are actually forced to stay at home or leave town. Whole wheat and whole grains a option for those people also. Have a healthy variety and reg menu would be great!
February 11, 2008, 2:21 pm
The owners own a Damon's but have already said they do not want it a chain or thought would open another Damon’s so we all can wish for Buffalo Wild Wings, Olive Garden of Texas Road house but the truth is, it is going to be whatever the people make up the name and whatever the owners Desire to serve. Since they stated to the mayor they want it not to be a chain restaurant. We want high class but low prices. We need to have places offer us what we think we should get for the money. A large portion for an average price ($10-15) a plate for an adult should fill you. If these people make it whatever they want it needs to be just that. So the poor can afford it on special nights and the wealthy can afford it whenever they want to go out.
February 11, 2008, 2:25 pm
wow, some people sure don't get the whole "no franchise" thing, huh? coming from someone who lives in newark and visits mt vernon, no matter what they put in there, people will still complain and the owners will still struggle to keep it going.
February 11, 2008, 2:39 pm
I would like to see a 24 hour place like Denny's, International House of Pancakes or a restaurant that can serve meals and breakfast 24 hours a day That is reasonably priced.
February 11, 2008, 2:41 pm
give me SONIC
February 11, 2008, 3:18 pm
I vote for SONIC
February 11, 2008, 3:19 pm
I would like to see an Olive Garden go in at the old Green Leaf. Now you have to go to Newark or Mansfield.
February 11, 2008, 3:52 pm
BW3's or a Roosters need someplace to go and get good wings while watching a game
February 11, 2008, 4:08 pm
My husband says' a gentlemen's club but I say Red Lobster.
February 11, 2008, 4:43 pm
My question to all the people that "want" the chain restaurants to come to Mt. Vernon, how many times a week are you going to eat at the chain restaurant?
February 11, 2008, 5:06 pm
Olive Garden
February 11, 2008, 6:16 pm
Personally, I would love to see a Damon's go in there. I used to work at one and I love their food. Plus, it would be more relaxed than Ruby Tuesdays and there wouldn't be dead animals above your food like at Jakes. Plus they have large screens to watch the Buckeyes!
February 11, 2008, 7:05 pm
Mongolian Barbeque
February 11, 2008, 7:53 pm
Sonic or Red Robin!!
February 11, 2008, 9:02 pm
I would love to see an Olive Garden go there or anywhere in Mount Vernon. I love their salads and goood.
February 11, 2008, 9:07 pm
I vote we close down 3 of the 3 MD'S who needs that garbage any way and put a white castle in
February 11, 2008, 9:08 pm
There are plenty of Sports Resturants (Flappers, Rubys Tuesdays bar, Jakes bar, Rookies, Parkside and a new one on Howard st.), and plenty of Steak Resturants (Ryans, Jakes, Ruby Tuesdays, Flappers) and even more Family Resturants, (All of the above, plus Southside, Bob Evans and friendlys) As far as classy restuarants most people would rather drive to Columbus, Newark or Mansfield if they are going to pay for a evening of fine dining. How many people would there be at a fine dining resturant 7 days a week? But there are a few in town (the Alcove, Ruby Tuesays is getting a face lift to become a 4 star resturant, and if O'Henrys is still in business there is that one too.)
Italian (Mazzas and a new one on Newark where Herbie Js was)
Chinese (3 all the same 2 buffet style)
Then there are a few small diners scattered about the town. (Barbs, Eloise, Southside, High Street Resturant)
You may not like these resturants, but they exist and just because a new one of these type opens does not mean they will be any better. With proximity to the movie theatre some place that would cater to teens as well as families would be nice. Something with a bit of class but not over the top. Not expensive, but a place where a great first date or family night out 50th wedding anniversay could be enjoyed in style.
If there is a liquor license available there can still be the sportsbar section. Add a place in the corner with a couch, and few tables to get a coffee or dessert after a late night movie with out feeling obliged to order a meal.
In the morning hours a good breakfast menu would be essential. As far as food goes, variety is a must, American cuisine, burgers, steaks, sandwhichs, pasta, and a good mix of seafood, throw in some healthy menu options too. I love salad bars.
February 11, 2008, 9:35 pm
After reading 135 comments, I feel for the new owners. It sounds as though they purchased a "NICE" restaurant in a town of unhappy, ungrateful people. Does everything in dining need to revolve around alcohol? Do young children not have a right to go out to eat with their parents for a good time? I know MANY children who are taken out to eat and act like perfect ladies and gentlemen--better than some adults. A casual restaurant with a relaxing family atmosphere and variety of healthy, freshly prepared food, nice desserts and good management would be great. As for those who want wild, wings, beer and little clothing--go where no one knows you, because those who know you don't want to know you are there--especially your significant other.
February 11, 2008, 9:37 pm
I think a Panera or a Chipotle would be great.
February 11, 2008, 10:30 pm
I think something similar to a Cracker Barrel would be nice. Simple, good quality, country eating (breakfast 24/7) with an area to shop for gift items. Most people would end up spending much more than just the dinner cost if there were unusual gift items offered.
February 11, 2008, 11:57 pm
two words: CORNER BAKERY!
PUUULLLEEEAAASSSEEEE!
PUUULLLEEEAAASSSEEEE!
February 12, 2008, 12:38 am
An all natural, and organic food restaurant.I, and many other people will not go to conventional restaurants to eat chemical-laden food.We cook at home, because there are no venues for us.
February 12, 2008, 4:23 am
CHIPOTLE OR SONIC!!
February 12, 2008, 5:24 am
white castle, sonic, olive garden, BUT FOR GOOD 24/7 'DENNYS'!!

A nice seafood/steak place! Or perhaps a Damon's...
February 12, 2008, 9:46 am
bw-3's or damon's we need a sports style restaurant in this town.
February 12, 2008, 10:25 am
Texas Roadhouse. I frequent East Columbus for the great menu variety, always delicious food, fun, energetic servers and service, and the environment caters dinner for two, solo dine at the bar, or a family of 12! An all-around fantastic steak place which would serve Knox County well!
February 12, 2008, 10:38 am
We agree with Ann from Howard Oh. Amer. food wh. tablecloths etc.
February 12, 2008, 10:58 am
how about a texas roadhouse or a tumbleweed restaurant, we need a good steak house in mt. vernon
February 12, 2008, 11:14 am
HOW ABOUT A RED LOBSTER. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE A SEAFOOD RESTURANT IN THIS TOWN.
February 12, 2008, 11:34 am
A diner. Like the in the 50's. We need a "hometown" feel without all the hype. k.i.s.s.
February 12, 2008, 11:38 am
hmmm hmmm .. like to see all you can eat biscuit and mustard joint , with taters ,
I like tators , HMM ,Hmm
I like tators , HMM ,Hmm
February 12, 2008, 11:49 am
I agree with AussieAmerican. The type of resturant this person is describing is just what Mount Vernon needs. Location is perfect for all.
February 12, 2008, 11:56 am
O'Charleys or Road House would be awesome!!!!
February 12, 2008, 12:12 pm
I would like to see a Steak House....Tumbleweed, Roadhouse...or Olive Garden or Cheddars....just something different!
February 12, 2008, 12:19 pm
I would like to see a sports bar, like Buffalo Wild Wings go into the old green leaf because me and my friends like to eat wings and hang out. That would be a perfect location for one.
February 12, 2008, 12:28 pm
TUMBLEWEED WOULD BE AWESOME OR A GOOD STEAK PLACE!
February 12, 2008, 12:33 pm
I would like to see an Olive Garden in Mt. Vernon.
February 12, 2008, 12:34 pm
I'd like to see something a little more upscale. To those who think Mt. Vernon can't support that type of restaurant the idea is that you bring in people from surrounding areas. If they come in for the food they may take the time to shop or see a movie and help support the entire town as well as the restaurant.
February 12, 2008, 12:35 pm
The Olive Garden would be great.
February 12, 2008, 12:36 pm
I would love to see a Buffalo Wild Wings. We dont have anything like it in town, and it would be a fantastic place to watch our Buckeyes!!
February 12, 2008, 12:42 pm
RED LOBSTER WE NEED ONE BAD,IT IS LONG OVER DO IN THIS TOWN .
February 12, 2008, 1:15 pm
I hate to agree with most the people here, but a strip club with food would do great in Mount Vernon.
February 12, 2008, 1:28 pm
Olive Garden
February 12, 2008, 1:35 pm
Why do you need a chain restaurant?! Individuality is underrated. How about that healthy, organic cuisine restaurant with vegetarian options and "beef" up the menu with traditional steaks, burgers, and poultry options for those of us who like a little variety? Add a wonderful wine bar and you have the best of family and high end dining.
February 12, 2008, 2:03 pm
A good seafood restaurant would be nice.
February 12, 2008, 2:23 pm
A 50"s restaurant could be interesting...
February 12, 2008, 3:11 pm
I'm all for a up-scale vegetarian restaurant. They are wonderful and provide something other than the norm for Mount Vernon.
February 12, 2008, 3:33 pm
Sticky Fingers-Memphis BBQ. Currently only located in GA, FL, NC, SC and TN.
February 12, 2008, 3:41 pm
red lobster would be great.
February 12, 2008, 3:44 pm
Red Lobster or a Steak and Shake would be nice since they are open 24 hours. anything different would be nice as long as it isn't another Mickey D's good luck to the new owners.
February 12, 2008, 4:00 pm
Golden Coral, hopefully better then RYANS!!... OR Tumbleweed
February 12, 2008, 4:18 pm
I would like to see a nice amish restaurant with a soup/salad bar similar to the one in Bellville come in to Mt. Vernon
February 12, 2008, 5:15 pm
I read Anne from Howards response. I am with her. I also read some of the other insane comments.Although, something like a steakhouse and seafood restaurant would be great for those of us who know how to handle our alcohol and respect families with young children. For those of you who need a place to party, go down to high street enough place there for you. Leave the other places for the mature residents of this town.
February 12, 2008, 5:23 pm
What we need is a new bait store not more places to eat. The bible tells us to fish not to just eat fish.
February 12, 2008, 5:30 pm
I hate to break the bad news Ed from Howard -But Lanning's meats are not local Their meat is shipped in from Con-Agra and the other big meat suppliers. I would like to see something along the lines of The Olde Jaol Brewing Company in Wooster, they have a sports bar section and a casual fine dining section. They cater to all tastes and price ranges and they do it well.
February 12, 2008, 5:46 pm
applebees
February 12, 2008, 6:41 pm
This town needs a place like the Cameron Mitchell restaurants in Columbus. A Martini's or Cap City Diner, Columbus Fish Market, those type of restaurants are upscale, but offer some down to earth selections.
February 12, 2008, 7:04 pm
HOOTERS....i like the wings
February 12, 2008, 7:11 pm
I THINK WE ARE LOOKING ATTHE RIGHT QUESTION HERE.... SHOULDN'TWEBE ASKING WHAT KIND OF ESTABLISHMENT WOULD NEEDTO GOIN THERE SO IN A YEARS TIME WE Arenot answering the samequestion. I am all for a independant restauranttogoin there but the truth is mount vernon needs a corperate place so that when things get rough there is money availableto not have to lock the doors.
February 12, 2008, 7:14 pm
I would like to see a Cheddars or a Red Lobster Restaurant come to Mount Vernon!
February 12, 2008, 9:16 pm
Either Olive Garden or White Castle would be great in my opinion.
February 12, 2008, 10:11 pm
I think a chucky cheese is what we need we have plenty of sit down restursants and fast food but nothing to do with the whole family
February 13, 2008, 1:40 am
I would like to see Dennys go into green leaf
February 13, 2008, 1:56 am
It won't matter what goes in there if we don't support it. I liked the Green Leaf. It was a family place with good food and good prices, just as so many of you have been asking for. Why would we need another "sleezy" place or fast food place to further degrade MV? Why in the world would we need yet another fast food place? Good luck owners! I hope you will be supported.
February 13, 2008, 7:29 am
Buffalo Wild Wings, Applebees, or Red Lobster
February 13, 2008, 7:34 am
I think we need a place that doesn't make this town seem like hillbilly town ohio, someplace classy, yet somewhere we can go with our families, and a place that isn't so expensive, somewhere we can go to have fun, and hang out with friends. There really isn't much to do here in little mount vernon, so I'd like it if we could have a fun place, I mean is that too much to ask?
February 13, 2008, 7:40 am
Damon's, I would def. eat there, and it is more for the family, and the sports fans,,,also, Texas Roadhouse would be great to!!
February 13, 2008, 8:09 am
Why does it have to be a restaurant? Why not a high quality "mens" club? If it has to be a restaurant...make it a 24 hour thing like Steak and Shake.
February 13, 2008, 9:19 am
An Amish restaurant would be nice.
February 13, 2008, 9:48 am
Red Robbins or Chilis----For sure no more fast food
Some kind of healthly place would be nice----boreing, but nice
Some kind of healthly place would be nice----boreing, but nice
February 13, 2008, 10:03 am
BW3s
February 13, 2008, 11:37 am
Whatever kind of restaurant goes in, the new owners should have a good breakfast menu because it's next to a motel, stay open late because it's next to a theater, and have healthy food because it's close to health care facilities and a health club. Hmm. And then there's the jail...
February 13, 2008, 11:48 am
A RedLobster would be nice. We travel to Heath and Mansfield , Ohio Frequently to visit this resturaunt. Also, a consideration would be a Chipotle's.
February 13, 2008, 12:02 pm
CHIP-OT-LE... MAYBE EVEN TWO OF THEM.. YOU KNOW.. BACK TO BACK IN THE SAME BUILDING..
February 13, 2008, 12:52 pm
I would like to see a quality chain like Olive Garden or Red Lobster. We have too many fast food restaurants in this town already. A nice sit down, take your girl out to dinner style restaurant would be great.
February 13, 2008, 3:52 pm
The original article that appeared in the Mt. Vernon News was great news regarding the sale of the Green Leaf. I read the article personally. Does the general public not understand that Chipotle, Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Damon's, Denny's...are CHAIN restaurants? The owner's ARE NOT putting a chain restaurant in. I think they want feedback on "what kind of food, atmosphere, etc..people enjoy"! Webster: chain-a flexible series of joined links; a series of things connected...restaurant: a place where meals can be bought and eaten. Thank you very much!
February 13, 2008, 7:46 pm
MCL-type cafeteria style with the variety of selection and inclusive of all the basic food groups on the pyramid. Eat what you want; more if you want or less. Eating at MCL in Kingsdale in Columbus about 2x a week was fresh, economical, healthy, and didn't add any lbs. to the frame.
February 13, 2008, 8:17 pm
How about a BW3s or something that would stimulate the nightlife in Knox County w/o being your typical bar. Even a Damons, w/ all of the sports affiliated entertainment, trivia, etc.,like the one in Newark. Something where you can go have a REAL good time, but not a "bar" atmosphere, and get good food too.
February 13, 2008, 8:41 pm
Please no more buffets! Take a look around...our waistlines do not need any more buffets..."healthy" or otherwise.
February 13, 2008, 11:01 pm
You have enough MD,Wendy's, Subways, pizza shops, and chinese, dont you want down home cooking and a place you can relax with friends and family that wont brake the bank.Enough with the chain resturants, Mount Vernon cant afford them. You need a place similar to IHOPS. Varity for everyone young and old. They can put tv's in so you can watch the bucks and the browns. Want to drink, go to Jakes, Alcove, Flappers, etc. Beer and wine is ok, that should be enough. Good Luck to what ever opens up there. Hope it will last.
February 14, 2008, 3:10 am
we travel a lot to newark just to go to texas roadhouse and would like to see one here. red lobster would be good. please no alcohol. we have enough violence in mt.vernon
February 14, 2008, 5:24 am
i think any one that could barbecue a good piece of meat breakfast dinner supper could keep that place packed 24/7
February 14, 2008, 9:49 am
I think we need a whitecastle! Let's face it, people either love them or hate them. But most people I've asked said they love em'. Cant eat enough! I've never seen a white castle go out of buisiness, only move- due to needing MORE space. I think it's WAAAY overdue. Thanks!
February 14, 2008, 10:06 am
A half sportsbar/half steakhouse would be nice. On OSU gamedays when the games are on Big 10 Network the place would be packed. I would be nice to have someplace to hang out and watch a game in a decent atmosphere.
February 14, 2008, 10:36 am
Texas Roadhouse or a Long Horn Steakhouse, Red Lobster would be nice or a nice barbeque rib
February 14, 2008, 11:36 am
I would love to see a Panara Bread or an IHOP.
February 14, 2008, 11:52 am
I TOO WOULD LIKE TO SEE EITHER A TEXAS ROADHOUSE, OR AN APPLEBEES... THEY BOTH HAVE GOOD FOOD AND REASONABLE PRICES..
February 14, 2008, 12:10 pm
Olive Garden or Panera!
February 14, 2008, 12:18 pm
I think an Amish menu would be GREAT! It would contain a little of everything and at decent price!
February 14, 2008, 12:37 pm
a 24/7 denny's would be fantastic
February 14, 2008, 12:42 pm
Travel to Newark to eat would like to see Red Lobster, Olive Garden or Texas Roadhouse.
February 14, 2008, 12:45 pm
HURRY SOME ONE PLEASE GO OUT TO US 62 AND 661 AND TELL SMOKEY JOES WE FOUND A PLACE HE CAN PARK HIS SMOKER AND FEED THE TOWNSOME GOOD BARBEQU
February 14, 2008, 12:46 pm
Vote in our houes is Olive Garden or Applebee's or an 'old time Clippy's since you got the drive-up already in place.
February 14, 2008, 12:57 pm
we dont need a dirty hand resturant what makes you think thats any better than anything else have you ever smelled them people
February 14, 2008, 1:10 pm
MY HUSBAND AND I WOLD LIKE TO SEE A DENNY'S. WHY? DENNY'S IS A 24 HOUR RESTRAUNT, BELIEVE IT OR NOT NOW A DAYS PEOPLE DO EAT LATE AT NIGHT SPECIALY AFTER THE BARS CLOSE,WE NEED A BIGGER PLACE TO EAT.
February 14, 2008, 1:49 pm
AS I READ ALL THE TYPES OF RESTAURANTS NAMED I NOTICED ALL OF THEM WERE CHAINS, SO HOPEFULLY THE NEW OWNERS READ THESE REQUEST S AND REALIZE WE WANT A CHAIN TO COME TO MT.VERNON EVEN IF THEY DON'T WANT A CHAIN. RED LOBSTER
February 14, 2008, 2:08 pm
I would like to see a restaurant that provides home cooked food and not the prepackaged/frozen meals that most chains are putting out now.
February 14, 2008, 2:45 pm
Italian or seafood would be wonderful
February 14, 2008, 2:48 pm
olive garden and red lobster are owned by a company named darden restaurants, and they only run their own stores and they dont sell franchises to individuals so the new owners wouldn't be able to put one in there even if they wanted to
February 14, 2008, 2:52 pm
For all of you who want chain resturants remember this. For every chain resturant that goes into MTV, that will take away one local resturant. MTV doesnt have the financial stability to support multiple "nice" resturants. one of the draw backs to living where you live is that you cant and wont get everything you want. Why are the other resons you drive to newark and Mansfield and Columbus....Shopping... The shopping takes you to those towns therefore tehy can have choices of resturants. We dont have the shopping to support more resturants. it has been a problem for years.
February 14, 2008, 3:34 pm
I would like to see Damon's or a Tumbleweed. Red Lobster also.
February 14, 2008, 3:54 pm
Bring back the Pirates Cove!! Bring Back Frankies!! Bring back Jody's!! Heck make the green leaf the new Hilltop bar (it's on top of a hill duh!) and people can then go and sleep it off at the jail across the street at closing time! But anything, anything other then coon dinners, PBR, red lobster, olive garden, Damon's, BW3, and a hot dog stand!!
February 14, 2008, 4:25 pm
Definately a Red Lobster
February 14, 2008, 4:28 pm
Olive Garden Red Lobster PLEASE I don't like to travel to Mansfield or Newark just to go for a good dinner.
February 14, 2008, 4:52 pm
I would like to see International Buffet & Sea Food would be really great !!!
February 14, 2008, 5:38 pm
I would like to see a Hooters go in there. if not that how about a red lobster or bw3
February 14, 2008, 5:49 pm
People say Mt vernon cant afford chain/nice restaraunts, take a look at ruby tuesdays, jakes. they are always packed, plus how many people drive out of town to go eat.red lobster
February 14, 2008, 7:14 pm
JJ FROM MTV.....THANK GOODNESS...SOMEONE IN YOUR TOWN THINKS LIKE ME
February 14, 2008, 9:15 pm

1 time and it was the last time for tuesdays , and Jakes , well no !! and red lobster ,, Ill never ever go back to the one Heath

Knox County does not have the demographics to support a major casual dining chain - period. People are asking for Italian (because obviously everyone realizes that Mazza's isn't cutting it these days.) I've seen several reviews of the new Italian place on Newark Rd - all positive.Denny's? Please - you get the exact same thing at the diners already in town. Any time there has been a 24-hour restaurant, they've either closed the doors, or ended overnight hours. When you have something, you don't support it. When it's gone...you complain.A restaurant that REALLY cooks its food - not opening cans of sausage gravy and soups from SYSCO or GFS. Someone that actually makes their desserts - again, not thawing frozen or "baking" a frozen pie. A restaurant that, when possible, purchases their supplies from local producers. It is possible to contract with Smithhisler's (not sure about Lannings) to process local beef and pork.I would pay more for someplace that actually cooked "in-house" instead of lying about it to their customers. I would pay more for someplace that contributed to the local economy, via purchasing local, than someplace that had a SYSCO or GFS delivery truck twice a week.
February 15, 2008, 11:25 am
I'd like to see a place that -- like the Middleground cafe and the VI in Gambier -- make their own food and use as much locally-grown and organic food as possible. People in our community want and need healthy food. It doesn't have to be fancy and expensive to be decent quality.
February 15, 2008, 11:38 am
A Denny's, Perkins, some place in this town that people with minimum wage jobs can have a sit down dinner... We all know that this town is already heading towards low to minimum wage pay. I'm sure these families are getting tired of fast food. We all know you cannot live Mickey D's bread alone!!! And we all can'tafford Ruby's, Jakes, and Mazza's. How about another pizza joint??? NOT!!! How about an amish style? Sonic utilizes the drive up style of eatery which the green leaf building posses. This subject is definately food for thought...lol
February 15, 2008, 11:47 am
I would like to see a Damon's or Olive Garden.
February 15, 2008, 11:54 am
Okay, I have to ask...what's so great about Amish food? I live around them and haven't seen anything different about their food. Full of lard and sugar. I just don't get it as to why everyone (at least the ones who don't live around them) think it's so great.I would like to see a nice bbq place. Something along the same lines as Smokey Bones whit GOOD ribs. Seems it's hard to find "good" ribs.
February 15, 2008, 1:50 pm
