If you read the comments below, people have no idea why we shot the satallite down. they think we are giving up on our spy program, which apparently has given a lot to knox co. One would get the impression that Knox County is nothing more than a 'hillbilly' county with no education. How insulting. I think it was a great idea and a very prudent one at that to shoot down the satellite. If the satellite is going to be coming down anyway and not burn up thoroughly on its' way through the atmosphere thereby risking some of our classified information to another country - why wouldn't we make the attempt? The USS Lake Erie, which by the way operstes with a Chinese ship, is the only Aegus equiped ship I know of that has the equipment. They have recently shown an ability to shoot down two targets at the same time. Before they shot it they knew where it will fall, which is a simple formula using speed and altitude, most 8th graders of today could have figures it out. I know first hand that the programs they use are not going to hit the wrong thing. I worked on the first generation programs for 15 years.
