MOUNT VERNON — The Woodward Opera House project is in the process of installing temporary protective sidewalk scaffolding today due to extreme ice and snow conditions. The recent cascading storms that Ohio has experience have caused a buildup of ice and snow that is gradually sliding off the metal roof. The new replacement ice and snow guards were schedule to be installed late in 2007 were unable to be placed before the onset of snow and ice storms.
“During the exterior restoration project last year, it was discovered that the existing snow guard devices installed 12 years ago were failing and had to be removed as a precaution.” explained Pat Crow, Project Manager. “A new improved snow guard system will be in place as soon as the weather permits workers to get on the roof and be able to work safely. The installation of the scaffolding today is an interim precautionary measure to protect those walking below.”
