March 6, 2008, 2:02 pm I remember 2 years ago, all the hype about the city not being able to afford the upkeep on the old pool and possibly shutting it down. Low and behold a year later, we have a nice, new, beautiful facility? If they were going to raise the prices, I believe it should have been done last year with the innaugural season. What was last year, a teaser year? Come on...If you're not making enough money, shame on you for building this extravagant water park in the first place. There is NOTHING in this town for kids to do as it is except go to the pool and play ball which doesn't even touch the summer months anymore. Leave well enough alone and lets the kids SWIM at the original price for a few years. They didn't, afterall, ask for an elaborate water park. They just want a pool where they can hang out with friends, cool off in the heat, and have fun without getting into trouble on the streets. You should have thought about the price of staffing and revenue when you asked all of Mt Vernon's business people to build such a facility. Sometimes simple is better and the outcome would have been the same. Happy kids having fun in the summer. March 3, 2008, 10:35 am Do I like the idea of raising the price? Of course not, but I will pay it anyway because where else am I going to take my kids? I don't necessarily think an increase is going to stop many of us who already go to the pool on a regular basis from continuing to go. March 3, 2008, 8:13 am To me raising the pool rates is pointless. the pool is for children and families so boostin the prices will make it that much harder for them to get in because not everyone has the extra money to pay for fun and recreational activities such as swimming at the publicpool. plus there aint enough positive programs or things for kids to do in mount vernon as it is. if anything my vote is to keep them the same if not lower them. Im sure it will be appreciated. March 2, 2008, 10:55 pm My grandfather helped build Community Pool before the Country Club had one so every child in Mt. Vernon had the opportunity to learn to swim. These were his words to my mother on why the Country Club didn't have a pool. His vision was to see that swimming was affordable to all not just the privileged. I hope that others will take this into consideration and continue improving the community. I had a wonderful childhood at Community Pool and best of all I could ride my bike there! March 2, 2008, 8:00 pm Its so congested at the pool I wont even take my child there. Its too dangerous.Raising it might be good because then so many people wont be there. Ha! Then I really will not want to go. We go out of town anyways. March 2, 2008, 6:50 pm JUST WAIT FOR THE SPRING RAIN TO FILL THE POT-HOLES AND EVERY STREET WILL HAVE IT'S OWN POOL/WATER PARK... ADMISSION IS FREE!!! March 2, 2008, 12:21 pm Everyone in Mount Vernon is looking for a free handout. All the poor parents in this town use the pool as a babysitter and should be ashamed of themselves for it. I guess they need to so they can shop at Wal-Mart in peace...I'm moving. March 2, 2008, 11:58 am IF YA DONT WANNA PAY THE FEE'S THERE IS A CREEK THAT RUNS NEAR THE POOL... OH, I MEAN "WATER PARK!!" />GOTTA PAY TO PLAY SOUND FAMILIAR? IF SOME LOCAL BUISNESSES HAD NOT PICKED UP THE TAB FOR MOST OF THE NEW PARK U'D PROBABLY BE SWIMMING IN THE CREEK!!! THEY "THE CITY" WEREN'T GONNA PAY FOR IT. THIS TOWN IS TOO CHEAP, OVER PAID UNDER WORKED, "LETS BUILD A NEW BASEBALL COMPLEX" BIG SHOT CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS!!! HOW ABOUT FIXING THE ROADS THIS SPRING??FORE-GO YOUR ANNUAL RAISE, GET SOME REAL JOBS IN THIS MINIMUM WAGE, RETIREMENT COMMUNITY. OH YEAH! AND WHY DOES THE WATER PARK LOOK LIKE A TRAIN STATION??? IT'S A WATER PARK NOT A TRAIN STATION!!! DUH!!!! March 2, 2008, 11:49 am I am glade if they raise the rates.People use as a day care center. March 2, 2008, 10:12 am The pool is okay, but it was pretty dirty last year. The bathrooms stunk and children under the age of 13 were there without adult supervision. There needs to be more employees watching the kids as most parents use this place as a babysitting facility during the summer. I have 2 kids and went each and every time with them. I bought passes for them and paid for me each time. There is just no where to swim for an adult. The pools were always too conjested and the kids were rude for the most part. I'll stick with the YMCA when I can. There is no use fighting the price increase, it will be raised regardless.... March 2, 2008, 6:11 am For the nice facilities that are provided, close to home and a clean, fun place for families to go--the rate increase is minimal. Let's be honest--if you drive to Columbus or Coshocton, spend the money for extra gas, take along extra items (since you are going out-of-town)--let's face it--it is still a pretty reasonable price. I have talked to several people who used to go to other towns to use a nice facility. Some people appreciate the pool, I guess it is just the ones who like to complain that speak up. By the way, Sam--do you forget that in America "we are ALL created equal"? Next question--how do you know with the present economy that you might not be one of those "poor people" someday? Ever had a physical condition that took you down financially? Ever had the unexpected loss of a job? But for the grace of God you could be "Poor". Maybe you need to drive to a location that fits your "class" of people. It's quite obvious from your statement you have plenty of money. Shame on you!! March 2, 2008, 5:02 am I think the pool is high enuff, dang near dround my cousin's oldest last year. I got on her back when we was playin dround the opossum in the bucket. I think it best for both us that the water anit no deeper. March 1, 2008, 11:15 pm OH I FORGOT TO SAY SOMETHING ELSE, WE ARE PAYING 2X ANYWAY BECAUSE WE PAY OUT OF OUR PROPERTY TAX TOO! March 1, 2008, 10:34 pm GOSH! ISN'T IT ENOUGH WITH THE GAS GOING UP BUT NOW MOUNT VERNON IS GOING TO TAKE SOMETHING ELSE AWAY!! GIVE ARE KIDS A BREAK!! I THINK IT'S UN CALLED FOR!! March 1, 2008, 10:26 pm I think it should stay the way it is. I bought a family pass last year for my 4 boys wife and my self and it was enuff the way it was. Some people are not lucky enuff to go last year because of the price. why make it more. The city just wants more and more March 1, 2008, 10:20 pm Let's see...2 hours at the movies $7.50, Popcorn $2.00, Pop $1.50 = $11.00 for 2 hours! no exercise other than your elbow & jaws! Or....less money and more fun! I vote YES! March 1, 2008, 9:57 pm Shame on you, Sam. Whoever can afford to pay the price deserves to be there. You're a low-life loser. Maybe you and your family should play near the fire hydrant! March 1, 2008, 9:53 pm I think they SHOULD raise the price. Maybe we can keep the poor people out this year and keep the pool a little cleaner. They should play in the street near the fire hydrant. March 1, 2008, 7:56 pm How many people knew was going to be a "Water Park" when the project as OKd? You build for your area..not Cleveland! March 1, 2008, 5:16 pm supply and demand we dont supply and they demand. The pool was a hit last year because it was new. The new feeling will be over this year and many will find their way to cheaper locations. if they want a "water park" they will go and pay for a real water park. As for a "pool" there is elsewhere. Those that go good for them. March 1, 2008, 12:05 pm The city pulled the woll over your eyes to get a nice place to swim and have fun.. now they want to raise the prices sky hi just like the old poll and attendance wasw way down, at one time they were going to close it (old one) but came up with a cadilac pool... Every Student in the area should have Free acess to it with their student Id or pay like $1.00 per day to use it. Get real Mt Vernon money hungry officials cut something like your cars out of the budget! March 1, 2008, 12:00 pm i dont think it should be raised i have kids and couldnt afford it last year i have not even been there yet as far as my children i think 2 of them have been and it is not because i paid for it!!!! but i also dont agree with swimming in the creek or a pond either EWWWWWWW!!!! but thats just me March 1, 2008, 11:43 am who needs a pool when we have that pond out at the fairgrounds. i bet we could add one of them fancy divin boards and make it real nice. plus during fair week we could al swim and watch the crash em up derby... March 1, 2008, 11:37 am I think that big concrete pool is plum crazy any how. There is plenty of swiming holes around the county for little ones to play in for free. Ain't nothing wrong with playing in the crick or a livestock pond. That's what we done as kids and it didn't cost us a cent. March 1, 2008, 10:35 am It's a bad idea. Although I do not use the facilities I realize Knox Co. is not a wealthy area. Therefore, people may not be able to afford to take their families. This means more kids out on the streets getting into mischief. March 1, 2008, 9:29 am I think that it shouldn’t even be a city problem. I don’t use the pool myself and I didn’t realize it was ... city funded. I sounds like poor planning to me. March 1, 2008, 8:40 am I don’t swim. March 1, 2008, 8:40 am I don’t agree with it because [people] should have fun. March 1, 2008, 8:39 am I don’t agree with it; it’s supposed to be a community pool, and I think, you know, if they raise it, a lot of the community can’t afford it. March 1, 2008, 8:39 am Well, that’s kind of a loaded question. I mean, for me it wouldn’t be a big deal, but I do know that a lot of the families that use the pool it would be a big deal for them. March 1, 2008, 8:39 am I don’t have a problem with them raising their pool rates. It’s all a matter of supply and demand. March 1, 2008, 8:38 am |
