Peebles ready for business

MOUNT VERNON -- The fifth annual American Red Cross of Knox County Hero's Breakfast will be held March 19 at the Lakeholm Church of the Nazarene. Angel An, weekend news anchor for 10TV News, will emcee once again at this year's event. The Mount Vernon News and WNZR radio have teamed up as this year's Heroes media sponsors.

MOUNT VERNON -- Easter fashions aren't just for little girls who like to dress up. Grownup girls also like to wear something special, something colorful, something new for the spring holiday. It's a day to celebrate the arrival of spring with a new outfit.

MOUNT VERNON -- Members of Mount Vernon City Council chimed in Monday on a proposal to raise the rates at the city's water park, increases proposed to help cover water park debt payments and operating costs.

MOUNT VERNON -- As traditional energy costs escalate, alternative energy sources have become more valued. As recent storms in central Ohio have demonstrated, wind is a plentiful source of power, particularly during the windier half of the year in winter and spring.

MOUNT VERNON -- City Council met with members of the Mount Vernon City School Board on Monday to discuss several matters, including the idea of a new roadway that would connect Cougar Drive with the high school parking lot.

MOUNT VERNON -- A year ago at this time, Utica High School senior Zack Walton was recovering from surgery to repair a collapsed lung that ended his junior season three-quarters of the way through. Still, his 278 points (18.5 average) were enough to win him the All-Area Player of the Year award.

MOUNT VERNON -- From a very young age, Fredericktown High School senior Whitney Levering knew what she wanted to be -- a basketball player. Years of hard work in the gym have paid off for Levering, who has earned the 2008 Mount Vernon News All-Area Girls Basketball Player of the Year honor.

MARIETTA -- At 5-foot-10, Marietta College freshman guard Nathan Edick may not be immediately recognizable as a basketball player. His shooting, however, speaks for itself.
