My step grandfather B. Williams owned Maplehurst and buckeye
boy is right-it was a sin to tear it down, it was offered to
the city! i think about that place and would love to have a
good picture of it!

I agree that we need to protect not only the really old
buildings but the buildings that make Knox County unique.
That would be the trailer parks and various discount stores
that are part of our current history. If someone were to
burn down my trailer home I would hope they would be
punished as much as someone who burned down a historic
building like the old Big Bear store.

I don't get why people keep saying "you can't bring
back history once it's gone". True; but if it were a
piece of my property, would you say the same thing? It means
just as much to me as a historic piece would because it's
mine. It is very sad that people violate historic places
but the crime should be punished no differently. If you
think it should be, maybe we need to stiffen the charges for
all of these violaters, not just pick and choose who gets
what by how historic something may or may not be.

I think a person or persons that are convicted of a crime
against a piece of history such as hollowed grounds
,buildings,Etc.I think they should be made to time for there
action in prison and preform community service until the
piece of history is restored.Once history is gone it is gone
for good.

arson is arson what ever the law says that what they should
get and no more unless the law changes

No punishment unless we make the city fathers accountable
for tearing down Maplehurst and the old Vernon Theater.

No, it ain't a good idea. If we start given harsher setences
for certain crimes then where will we stop? Eventually we'll
be saying if you're driving drunk while in a buggy you'll
get more time in the slammer because it's an historic form
of tranportation.

Its not like being a perverted molester. Lots of the old
buildings anit nothing but trouble, look at how much the
opera house has cost us. Id rather live in a shoe than
spend my afternoon in a “historical” building.

If the buildings r historic, u would think they would be
more kept up with..A crime is a crime, and i feel all should
get the same punishment. HOWEVER! This is Mt.Vernon...

I think historic buildings need to be preserved but when a
crime is committed, one punishment should fit all. Arson is
arson, whether it’s a historic building or not.

I think they should be given the maximum sentence. They are
taking something away from the community. But I think the
law should be the same whether it’s a historic building or
not.

They should probably be given whatever sentence the law
allows. I don’t think they should be given anything much
different. Arson is arson.

Because I love antiques, [the sentence should be more
severe] to a certain degree. If it’s historical, it can’t be
replaced.

I think they should be given the same sentence as the normal
person, but I think they should be given community service
and not light community service. They should be made to
realize the importance of historic buildings to the
community.
