Mazza's Restaurant closing Saturday
MOUNT VERNON -- Joseph Mazza Sr. drove into town one day in 1939 in his battered '36 Chevy and parked on West High Street to get a haircut. While spending his last 50 cents in the barber shop, Mazza looked through the window and across the street at the bus station and the small diner called New York Lunch located next to it.

Proposal to lower Gambier Road speed limit apparently dead
MOUNT VERNON -- The result of a recent traffic study by the state may spell the end of a much-debated proposal to lower the speed limit on a stretch of Gambier Road. The study states that no change in the speed limit is warranted.

Businesses can practice emergency plans, drills
MOUNT VERNON -- Ohio is in the midst of Severe Weather Awareness Week, and the state will test its emergency alert system this morning. Schools and businesses are encouraged to participate by practicing emergency plans and drills as well.

Unemployment in county fell in February
MOUNT VERNON -- Unemployment in Knox County fell sharply during the month of February, according to a state report released Tuesday.
