Taking it to the Streets
At what age do you think it’s appropriate for parents to let their children drink alcohol under their supervision?
NEVER! will my kids drink or do drugs under my
supervision..and the age limit is 21 on drinking so one
would think that's when u r able to drink..

It is irrelevant what I or anyone else thinks. There are
laws which dictate the age at which people consume
alcohol.

16 years old. I have a 16 year old daughter and she's
allowed to drink in the house as long as I'm there or
another adult. I figure that she was already drinking with
her friends and I didn't want them getting in recks while
drinking or having to do bad things to get the booze. So, I
just buy it for them and let her and her boyfriend/friends
stay over and drink just as long as they all stay the night
and make it to school the next day if it's a school day. I
think it's a much safer way to deal with something that they
was going to do any how. Plus, it allows me to get to know
her and her friends better.

All I can say is that in Europe the legal drinking age is
much younger. While laws vary kids can usually buy alcohol
at 16 and drink a lot younger, yet they cannot drive cars
until they are 18.

This means the teens learn
how to handle alcohol without wrapping themselves around the
next tree. The big thrill is gone if you are actually
allowed to do it.
While not perfect, the graduation
rate over there for live teenagers is a lot higher than here
in the US!

Well I figure my drinking brought me this mess of kids.
Anit no harm in my brood getting to know there daddies’
romance potion. Maybe I could teach them a little control
and self respecting. Any ways I’m more worried about them
getting hooked on the video gaming and the text messaging,
than the bottle.

If for one second parents think that their children are not
drinking or doing drugs, they is something wrong. Even
though my children thought they were getting away with it, I
still knew. I would rather have them home, safe and sound if
they are going to participate in something like this. At
least I have some control over the situation. The problem
comes in when the kids are more responsible than some of the
parents. I don't think drinking at any age is good, but
given that, they are still developing at 18. If someone
responsible can teach them their limits and to say NO is
okay then 18 is good. If you try to wait till they are 21,
they are usually in college and out of your sight anyway.
You might as well, as a parent, try to help them with their
limits before they go to a college drunk fest and end up
dead.

to steal, lie, skip school, speed or cheat as long as you,

out there!!So how can we expect more from the children?

I agree, we send these kids over seas to die for our country
but we do not let them legally drink. I also believe that
if the general thrill of doing something against the law is
removed by lowering the age to 18 then there would be less
issues.

I think that if the kids are with the parents then 16 is ok.
My son told me that he knew that he couldn't drive when he
was drinking and that was because I let him drink with me.
He said that if he was out with friends adn drinking then he
wouldn't have knew not to drive and it was better that he
learned this way. I agree with the fact that they are
adults, legally, at 18 and they can go and fight for our
freedom then they should be able to drink at 18 legally.

things to get booze, no problem. I’m going stop drinking at
your house if you don’t stop harassing my boyfriends and
having them other when I’m not there. I’m 16 and I don’t
think you should drink with your Mom, just older friends and
maybe friends of your Dad.

and my daughter ask for a winecooler fine, just don't do it

someone like "Tina" gave my daughter alcohol

to wise up to the ways of the world. I think that 18 should
be the legal drinking age. At that age they are old enough
to enlist in the military, vote and even worse yet, buy
tobacco products. So why not let them buy alcohol too?

My parents let me drink in moderation at home, in their
pressence when I was around 16. They believed that by
letting me try it with them, I would be less likely to try
with my friends and end up in an accident. I believe they
did the right thing. By being able to drink with permission
made it no big deal. I have a few beers now and then but
never had a drinking problem. By doing that, my parents made
drinking no fun. Part of the reason kids do it is because
they have to sneak to drink. To this day I am still not a
big drinker and I am 33 years old. At no time did my parents
EVER let anyones else's children drink under their roof. I'm
glad my parents allowed me to experiment with drinking under
their supervision. I didn't abuse it and end up dead from
drinking like so many other kids. The bottom line is kids
will drink no matter what you do or say. BY taking the fun
out of it, just may save theie life.

I do not think it is appropriate for underage children to be
drinking period. And for Tina, I am currently studying to be
a chemical dependency counsler and you have to be kidding
me! What you are doing is illegal, inappropriate and
dangerous. Just because alcohol is legal does not mean it
does not kill. Everyone's tolerance level for alcohol is
different and alcohol poisoning is very real. And you are
providing it to children that may be on a medication or have
a medical condition that alcohol could aggravate or produce
a severe or deadly reaction. Perhaps you should consider
these issues before passing around the bottle. A parent's
job is to provide boundaries and set rules for children. It
may be easier for you to give out alcohol to keep your
daughter home, but a parent's job is not to do what's easy
but what's right.

My son lived w/his dad when he first turned 16 and he was
free to drink, whenever. Now, 7yrs later, he's been
discharged from the military for the disease of alcoholism,
been in and out of jail, currently in, been beaten to a pulp
while drunk, has had a couple dui's. Plus whatever I don't
know about. This is the sweetest kid, you'll ever come
across, (even when he's drunk) but alcohol, when young, hurt
him terribly! I say keep kids away from it as long as the
law allows.

Why are we getting all distressed about Tina, she isn’t
doing anything that we all haven’t done. Bonding with an
adult can take place in many situations, and alcoholic
beverages being serves is a completely legitimate occasion
for a teenager to interact with adults. Some of my fondest
memories of my youth are socializing on my father’s yacht
with other peers, and alcohol would be sensibly consumed.
In ending I am comfortable allowing my son and friends ages
16 to 17 consuming alcohol in any of our homes or boats.

Not at any age. Why would a parent contribute to their
children's addictions? As parents, they are responsible for
the children's wellness and should be keeping them safe from
harm. Alcohol is harmful. I have seen too many times where
kids perish at a very young age because of drinking. Kids'
brains are not fully developed and make very poor decisions
as it is. Add alcohol to that, and you will have some
serious consequences.

My parents were not together, at my moms, she did not want
me to have ANY part of drinking, but my dad let me drink at
his home with him there. I think parents who let their kids
drink at home is doing a good thing. I believe by doing
this, you know they are safe, and nothing can happen to
them. While them sneaking behind your back and going to a
party horrible things could happen such as sex, driving,
drugs and more. With you being with your kids, you can show
them when to stop & by doing this, they are more likely
to not try it out with their friends. Lets face it beer does
not taste good at all, and liquor has a horrible shock to
it. By them drinking at home, it should show them how nasty
this stuff is, and you need to teach your kids just what
alcohol can do to them & their bodies.

It was legal for me to drink at 18. I grew up being able to
get a sip or drink of beer when ever I wanted it. At an
early age I learned beer had no magical draw. At sixteen I
could have a whole beer to my self. As long as mom and dad
were there. I'm 43 years old now. And could care less if I
had a beer. I might have one or two a month now. I have no
desire for anymore then that. I'm for teaching at young age.
not after they start forming thier own thoughts on the

there is not a big to do with it. As long as they are taught

I find it somewhat comical that Kenyon initiated this dialog
since they already sponsor keg parties for underage
drinkers. Of course, I understand why they do it, kids are
going to drink so you might as well supervise it. Alcohol is
the most abused drug in the world and has ruined more lives
then all the other drugs combined. Our own prosecutor has
said almost all the cases that come across his desk involve
alcohol. Drug use is a perversion of the mind and any
establishment that sells alcohol is nothing more than a
glorified drug dealer. I know that's not going to sit well
with those who use alcohol as their drug of choice but
that's the problem with this war on drugs, kids don't
understand how society advocates one drug but condemns
others. You can't lie to the kids, they see right through
it.
