New businesses open on Harcourt Road

By Dylan McCament, News Staff Reporter

MOUNT VERNON — A new counseling office and a new tanning salon recently opened in the area of Harcourt Road.

Cindi Miller is running a new Christian-based counseling office out of the Vineyard Church of Knox County at 806 Harcourt Road. It is a local branch of the nonprofit organization called Wellspring, which has satellite offices all over central Ohio. Miller, a licensed counselor from Mount Vernon, said she provides treatment for a wide variety of mental and emotional problems, from ADHD to depression to women’s issues, but added that she has a real passion for marriage and family counseling.

“I think marriages and the family is the core and the core issue in society,” she said. “Strong families and marriages help avoid a lot of other problems.”

Miller said although the agency is Christian, she welcomes non-Christians and offers secular counseling. Although it is a nonprofit group, the service provided by Wellspring is not free. Miller said the organization accepts insurance, but tries to make the services affordable. There is funding available for low- to moderate-income individuals who may or may not have insurance.

At 1095 Harcourt Road, Suite A, a new tanning salon with 11 beds opened on Monday in a 2,000-square-foot space across from Crossroads Driving School. Business owner Donna Peters said the salon, Always Summer Tanning, offers four different levels of tanning, beginning with Level 1 for those new to tanning, to Level 4, which provides tanning to difficult-to-tan places like the face and shoulders. She said she expects to add manicure and massage therapy services.

“I’ve always been into tanning,” she said. “Nothing makes a person feel better than a tan. Unfortunately, with Ohio weather, you never know when you are going to get one.”

She said the benefit of tanning is that a person can slowly build up a tan and avoid a nasty sunburn. Asked why she located on Harcourt Road, she said the high traffic volume and the location is one that gets people coming into and leaving the city.

Peters plans to have a grand opening in a few weeks with giveaways.

In other business news, Wok N’ Roll restaurant in the Valley Shopping Plaza has a sign posted saying it is closed. The owners were not available for comment and it is unknown whether the closing is temporary or permanent.
