MOUNT VERNON — The owner of The Curtis Inn on the Square, originally charged with solicitation, pleaded guilty on March 11 to a reduced charge of persistent disorderly conduct, a fourth-degree misdemeanor.
Sucha “Sonny” Singh was arrested in October 2007 for allegedly offering money, free hotel rooms, alcohol and drugs to a 27-year-old woman in exchange for sex.
According to the arrest report, the woman alleged that Singh had attempted to solicit sex from her on multiple occasions. At the time, the woman was an employee of a local nightclub owned by Singh and his uncle.
Assistant Prosecuting Attorney John Aebi dismissed the solicitation charge in exchange for Singh’s guilty plea. Municipal Judge Paul Spurgeon sentenced Singh to 30 days in jail suspended, a $250 fine plus court costs and six months of nonreporting probation. Singh is to commit no similar offense for two years, or else he could possibly face imposition of his suspended sentence.
The original solicitation charge, a third-degree misdemeanor, was punishable by up to 60 days in jail and a $500 fine.
