Booths displayed formed concrete borders, wood-burning stoves, real estate services, home furnishings, awnings, hot tubs, kitchen cabinets and landscaping, water softeners and beer nuts.

Wiford Rental & Sales, Inc., Mount Vernon, has been a vendor for several years, said Monet Wiford.

“We come here to support the community and to hopefully meet new people and get some new leads. It gives [my husband] Duane time to talk to people and interact with them,” she said.

Dan Pike of Indianapolis is presenting half-hour cooking shows using American-made Health Craft cookware. His Better Health Cooking Show is scheduled for today at 11 a.m. and 3, 5 and 7 p.m.; and on Sunday at 11 a.m. and 12:30 and 2 p.m.

“I’ll be cooking vegetables without water, meat without grease. I’ll bake a cake without an oven and put together a fresh garden salad in about 60 seconds,” he said while polishing a shiny new skillet.

“We’re here to advertise our brand,” said Dave Culbertson as he greeted visitors in his Real Living Home Team real estate booth for the third year. “We’re here to advertise our agency and to talk real estate. People want to know how real estate is going. We’re not here to push houses; we’re here just to talk to people and to spread optimism. The housing market is turning around.”

Charlotte and Wesley Newcomb drove to the show from Newark.

“I love to do this,” Charlotte said. “I love home shows, and the walking is good exercise, plus getting to talk to nice people.”

David Zurawski and Roger Murton of Cleveland represented their company, Buyers Outlet.

“Everybody said this is the place to go in Mount Vernon,” said Zurawski.

Jody Witzky of JW Promotions, Apple Valley, who organized the show, was pleased with the number of vendors and visitors.

“It’s a very good show because people support it,” he said. “This is the biggest home and garden show in a community of this size.”

OSU football player Vernon Gholston will sign autographs at the show today from 1 to 4 p.m.

Show hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. There is an admission charge; food is available for purchase. Sponsors are Wiford Rental & Sales Inc., Embarq and Eagle 93.7/1300 WMVO.
