FREDERICKTOWN — “Angry teenagers,” is the way Fredericktown Fire Department Assistant Chief Larry Schunke spoke about fires that were set at the Fredericktown Intermediate School early this morning. An automatic fire alarm sounded the warning at 3:05 a.m.
esponding to the alarm, Fredericktown police officer Beau Ayers found fire in a stairwell.
Schunke said there wasn’t much of a fire. A wood pallet was placed in the stairwell on the north end of the building, and material on the pallet was set on fire. The glass in the door was broken out, and the door was scorched. There was evidence of an attempt to set another fire against a metal door on the northwest corner of the building.
A wood pallet had also been set against the door at the second location, and a plastic glove set on fire. There was a paint spray can on the pallet and a plastic container that may have contained gasoline on the steps. Graffiti was painted on two fire escape doors.
Fredericktown Police Chief Jerry Day said the items will be sent to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification for analysis. The incident is still under investigation.
