Marine Corps League forms in Knox County

MOUNT VERNON — A detachment of the Marine Corps League is now chartered in Knox County.

The new detachment has 28 members, with Lawrence Devlin selected as the first commandant. The other officers are Senior Vice Commandant Gary Cox Sr., Junior Vice Commandant Ron Bruce, Judge Advocate Ray Neighbarger II, Adjuant/Paymaster Sarah Moxley, Chaplin Frank Cumpston and Sergeant at Arms Jim Stamper.

The charter was presented to the detachment by Roger L. Gardner, commandant of the Marine Corps League, Department of Ohio. The league meets the third Wednesday of each month at the AMVETS Post 95 recreation room on Ohio Avenue. All former Marines in Knox County are invited to attend.

The Marine Corps League was chartered by Congress in 1923 to provide support for former Marines and their families. The league supports a variety of youth organizations, including a strong Boy Scout movement.
